The Explorer sounds great to me. I don't really need seven seats but I could use them once a year and the safety features combined with the quietness are extremely impressive.

I'll confess I've been a fairly staunch Jap car buyer the last few years. But Ford is doing a lot of things right and they earned my admiration for turning their company around without taxpayer funding. I feel pretty strongly that my next car will be a Ford and may very well be an Explorer.

I love my 2002 Explorer and as long as Ford keeps making them the Explorer's will be the only personal vehicle I ever buy.

Even through the unibody transition?

It's a fair risk moving from the body on frame, live rear axle, V8, etc. It will need a whole new type of buyer. With the Edge and the Flex already on board in house, Ford is really counting on the crossover segment to keep expanding. It is an Explorer in name only, it carries nothing over. Maybe that's a good thing.

When my current car dies which will hopefully be after college and I will have a job, I would be shocked if I bought something other than ford even if it's used. No buyout is a huge plus.

I was at Airventure when they unveiled the 2011 Explorer....it was pretty sweet how they did it!

I had a 2000 Limited Explorer and never again will I buy a Ford. I bought it in 2002 with 25,000 miles. Loved all the toys and gadgets on it. But soon after the sub and back speakers stoped working. Sunroof got stuck open. I kept it for 3 years when I had to replace the transmission with only 80,000 miles on it. They rebuilt it at first and it failed. Replaced it and it failed. Then replaced it again with a brand new one. 5000 miles into the 3rd transmission the engine light came on. Traded it off for a 2003 Chevy truck the next day. Never missed it....

Wife has a Ford Escape. And if you Escape from that thing alive after an accident I think it would be a miracle. It currently has 130,000 miles, and it gets good gas mileage, but it is starting to nickel and dime us. Problem is we have no money to replace it.

Never will buy a Ford.

I'd like to wait a few years and see how they hold up. Every Explorer that I've sat in used has been kind of a mess on the inside. 30-40K miles and the cheapness starts to show through.

I'm a GM guy through and through, but the Fords back seat in their new crew cab half tons is impressive. Will I ever buy one? No, because I will never be riding in the back seat so I don't really care about it. I also think Fords seem awfully cheap in how they are produced. I don't know if it's just visual or what but every work one I have driven they have just seemed cheap.

I don't pay attention to vehicles much, just when I want to buy or something real interesting coming out. Has there been a successful unibody vehicle on the market lately? It's just a huge risk in terms of fixing things. I have a unibody car and to do anything body wise is pretty damn expensive for a car so drastically overproduced.

I believe Ford has done a complete 180 the last few years on the production of their vehicles. On CNBC one day they had a story on Ford's turnaround and Consumer Digest was raving how in the last few years that Ford has started building quality vehicles compared to the crap they use to produce.

I have owned a 2000 and 2005 explorer. The 2005 was leaps and bounds above the older one. I am sure the newer ones are even better. You have to say that Ford is doing things right, no buyout and turning to more of a quality mentality. I ever need 4 wheel drive again, it will be a Ford, until then, I look at gas milage and resale. Acura wins for Florida.

I really like my 2011 Hyundai Santa Fe. My daughter got a 2011 GMC Terrain that is real nice too but it cost a whole lot more than my Hyundai. We'll see how the two compare after they have 100,000 on them or so but I think I have a very solid car. I have owned a Datsun, GM, MG, GM again, GM, Dodge, Ford, Dodge, Honda. Toyota and now a Hyundai........I think the only thing I learned is that I'm done buying American cars.
