He wanta to be here and take this program to places it has never been. He will not leave. He is is here for the long haul. EVERYONE should support him and give him a chance. We got an ISU guy! Welcome back to the family Coach.

I like it much better than Stoops or anyone with as much sleaze in their background as Barnett.

Not as high as a Patterson or Gill...

Maybe less expensive than those guys.

Rhodes has lot of connections that might help build the program.

If Marty is claiming Paul Rhoads is our new head coach I can ALMOST guarantee that Paul Rhoads will NOT be our new head coach. Think about it, if JP has kept this search under wraps for this long why would it be allowed to leak at the last second? I'm pretty sure that an email would not be sent to all of the players.... JP would surely know the info is going to get out immediately. Think about it. That being said, if this is the hire, I'm behind it 100%.

If true, I like this better than a lot of the names that have already been mentioned....especially Stoops.
It may not be the flashy name that a lot of people are looking for, but he has Iowa ties, and really wants the job...that is huge (and much better than a 2 year carpetbagger)

If it is true, I'll support him 100%, but I was really hoping for someone with previous head coaching experience.

What is going to be key is the OC and DC. No friends or old buddies, please. We need guys that can coach and recruit. Keep MacFatty for Oline and Lightening Bolt for LBs.

Re: Marty and Miller now claiming Rhoades will be named today

Hmmm

Although this could very well be true, I was with "a close family member" last night and he didn't seem to know anything about it.

He did reveal that Chizik called Rhoads about the DC job before he turned Judas, but Paul told him he was happy at Auburn. He also said Chizik pulled all Tuberville's assistants in for about 30 seconds last Sunday night and told them all to start looking for work.

So Chizik thought Rhoads was qualified to be a DC at ISU, but not at Allburn???????

If true, i will be disappointed. Nothing against Paul Rhoads but if you think what we need is someone with midwest connections to keep him here thats a bunch of bs. Ferentz had no ties to Iowa, but he's stayed amidst a bunch of other opportunities.

What we needed was someone that would develop our program - someone with experience at doing just that. I cannot say that Rhoads has that impressive of a resume to think he will be capable of such a transition from DC to head coach. The last DC to Coach hire didnt go so well. And recruiting.....forget it. No recognition, no excitement....

If everyone was saying they were worried about our current players leaving, but, they waited to see who it was going to be - do you really think a lot of our players are going to say hey we need to give him a chance? Thats were the name recognition was important, keep the players we have, and the very good class we had assembled coming.

I'm not saying he would be a bad hire, i'm just thinking with everything that had happened and everything with the programs direction - we needed someone who wanted to be here and someone with head coaching experience and name recognition. In Paul Rhoads we do not have any of those things, the only thing we have is he's a Ankeny native. To me, if you have to find an Iowa Native to coach our team, that really cuts down on your potential coaches.

time will tell - JP i hope you got this one right, i question it now.

I didn't want poops either. I would take Fulmer, Calhoun, Murphy, Hill, Patterson, Bowden.

Agreed. JP said he wanted a guy with head coaching experience, an offensive mind, etc...

Hiring another Defensive coordinator does not fit that bill at all. With JP hell bent on keeping this thing under wraps do you really believe that he would send an email out to all of the players at 8am saying that he was going to announce a coach at 5pm that night? That just doesn't make any sense at all based on JP's track record.

We need a coach who wants to be here. We don't need a flashy name this time around.

I absolutely despise this sort of mentality...this "wanting to be here"...because what you really mean is that you would like to hire a coach that will never want to leave.

The reality is that the Paternos and Bowdens of the world are extremely rare. In fact, most coaches (loved or hated) end up lasting 4-8 years at a school no matter how they do. That's why a guy like McCarney can be dean of Big 12 coaches with 12 years.

We need a coach that can bring us big time winning football...someone that can make it happen at all levels...recruiting, coaching, game planning, game day coaching, and building enthusiasm for all the faithful. I'm not looking for someone we can "marry until death do us part" or someone that we want to offer a lifetime contract to.

The reality is EVERY JOB is a "stepping stone" job to some extent...some jobs more so and some job less so. Saban used LSU as a stepping stone. Rodriguez used WVU as a stepping stone. There are plenty of examples of guys leaving high profile programs for greener pastures.
