I am seeing that last week the Judge in the case gave the NCAA a two week deadline to grandfather on returning players against the limit.

This only makes sense, since the ruling came down after kids were already on teams. And it would help ISU, in that the ‘24 freshman were easily the most talented group of walkons yet.

The good news being, I don’t think even the NCAA can find a way to mess this one up. Kids on the ‘24 roster simply have four more years to complete their eligibility, as an exception to the 105. Duh.

And each year, the graduates trim that down.

Snipped how it works. Basically, the former walkons are total freebies for the rest of their eligibility.

  • Keep roster limits with grandfathering for affected athletes
    • NCAA may adopt roster limits for Division I sports.
    • Athletes whose roster spots were or would have been eliminated due to the new limits are exempt from roster caps for the remainder of their eligibility. They do not count toward any school’s roster limit, and they are labeled Designated Student-Athletes (DSAs).
    • DSAs can transfer back to their original school without restriction if they left because of the new roster rules.
