Wouldn’t want Royce anywhere near the current players.

This statement reminds me that TJ was on staff during the Hoiberg era.

Fred didn't run a tight ship. We all know this fact by now. Royce is an obvious example.

TJ runs a VERY tight ship. Culture, values, teamwork, integrity, etc., and while coaching always involves some level of coachspeak I think TJ really genuinely means these things when he says them.

I wonder what assistant TJ thought of how Fred ran the program while he was here.

Probably plenty of good things but also I think being up front with players and following through are things that could be taken away from his time as an assistant in general.

He had so much potential to be successful in the NBA and make a lot of money. He might not be a superstar but IMHO he could be a serviceable NBA player for several seasons but he chose to go another route.

He could have had a long career, made more money than he would know what to do with, and probably could have made a couple all-star teams.

He can’t get out of his own way and I would be ok if he never stepped foot in Ames ever again.

It’s honestly the most normal tweet he’s had in a long time and showing appreciation for his time in Ames. It’s so strange…if I knew nothing about his last decade, I’d love to have him back in Ames celebrating the player Royce.

That's quite a time frame.

Also I don't believe it's the only time frame with some not great situations.

I guess I don't think he is that bad of a human. He had a disease of anxiety. Other than that he didn't do anything terribly bad. I don't remember him getting arrested for anything more than Shoplifiting. He has an opinion that may be different than mine or yours. So I guess I missed something that made him such a horrible human.
Recent reports I have confirm he's not a great human being. My Brother in-law coaches his kid in hoops.

I actually don't think there's much in between with him. With his rare combo of size, vision and ball handling skills, if not for off the court issues he's a star. If his shot improved, superstar.

Guys who can pass and handle the ball like that are almost never bulky/strong/explosive players like Royce already was, they're either smaller leaner players or much slower bigs like Joker and Sabonis father/son who might be able to pass at that level but not bring the ball up the court like that. His shooting touch and how much he was able to work as a defender would be the unknown or lacking areas besides the off the court stuff.

Suffice to say it's now quite obvious that off the court was a lot more than just typical anxiety or mental health issues that a massive % of society lives with. Lots of other stuff on top of that.

Gross. I'm thankful that Royce and whoever was handling him for the year he was here was able to keep him somewhat in check. And I completely fell for the ******** that he was sort of a decent person.

But he needs to stay the hell away from Iowa State, our program, and anyone related to Iowa State basketball. Let Nebraska have him.

I had my suspicions with the odd obsession about selling his own brand of water. I remember some question about playing in the NBA and he changed topic to how his real passion was selling water.
