Does anyone know how we stack up to other schools NIL wise? What other big basketball brands (yes we are a big basketball brand) do we compare to?

He looked good early, but his handles and defense just weren't up to par for minutes on this team. Both of those can be improved with a dedicated offseason of work if he decides to stay.
Yeah, Nojus is intriguing. Maybe it's "Cyclone colored glasses" but I wouldn't write Nojus off yet. He's pretty athletic, has good size and can shoot fairly well. As Pride said, if he works on his handles and defense (which both can be improved quite a bit) he could become a solid contributor. You can see some of his talent and athleticism. I could see him coming on. It's hard when you get buried on the bench, but he might be feeling he has a chance now and extra motivated to stay in front of the newcomers.

We've had other guys do that like Naz Long, so it's possible. Kid's got some talent which is partly why he was rated so high. We'll see what the next week or so brings.

Hope he stays.

I don’t call it a lack of commitment. You have 4 years of eligibility. Don’t waste them in a system that doesn’t match what you do. If your coach wants a big that can run the floor and you’re a post up player, it’s probably best to find a system that allows you to do that.
I get that as well

Welcome to the new norm for college sports that’s why it’s still good to cheer for your team but not get emotionally invested anymore

Playing devil's advocate, Blum DID recently say if we can get through these next 3-ish months, things should calm down at least a little. There will still be outside NIL after universities start the rev share thing, but hopefully it won't be quite as wild wild west as the past couple years have been?

I'm far from an optimist, but still holding on a little sliver of hope the sport isn't completely ruined. Saw somewhere there were 500+ players that entered the portal within the first 24 hours, crazy.

I don’t get why fans are acting like this is new. We’ve been in the transfer era for a long time now. And it’s been rare forever at ISU for a freshman who gets little playing time his first year to become a major contributor here - people have been using Naz as that rare example for over a decade now.

If we only lose these 4 plus Nojus to the portal and return all the others - that’s a huge win for the program.

Plus the transfer era has been extremely good to ISU, Christmas in March

No one has any patience anymore. Fans want to win right away. Players want to play right away. Coaches have to look for the quick fix rather than helping a kid develop over a 4 year career.

The reality is freshmen are just cheap labor at this point. You need practice bodies and you can't afford to being paying everyone on the roster serious NIL money. The top-50 type recruits you hope they can come in and contribute. Beyond that, if you get them there and they wind up being better than you thought, great. If not, you've got yourself a practice player on the cheap.

I mentioned this in another thread but I'm amazed you aren't seeing more of these guys go mid-major. If you are Rock or Fish, you now have 2 years with absolutely 0 meaningful game film to use in your recruitment. Wouldn't you have rather gone mid-major, played some over the last 2 years and now potentially be in a position to transfer up?

Go back and watch the Auburn game in Maui. Kid drove the baseline and tried to dunk on an Auburn big guy and got fouled. He's got game, just didn't get much chance to show it.

In pretty much every other game he looked lost. I think it was the Marquette game where he got his last real minutes and he had a stretch where he got torched on defense and had a really bad turnover and I think at that point TJ had just seen enough.

Poor barometer if so. Marquette probably had the best guards we played in the non con, if not entire season

Are these recruiting sites even putting out any effort anymore?

If Nojus leaves that's 3 of the top 12 recruits in the modern area leaving within a year. None of them looked anywhere close to being able to contribute as freshman and what I've seen of Rock and Bielew this year they don't look close anytime soon either.

Just seems like really bad projections.

Other than Cooper Flagg, who is a generational talent, great teams don’t play kids straight out of HS.

If I’m a 4 star recruit or lower, I’m going to the best school outside the power 5 conferences for a year or two to show my skill with the intent to transfer to a bigger program after. I feel for guys like Nojus, who pre-NIL and transfer era would’ve been a damn homerun.
