so we are up to 4 confirmed portalers so far?

Dishon
Demarion
Kayden
JT

Honestly I’m pretty happy if we are rebuilding the rest of the roster around Tamin, Nate, Josh and Milan. One of the two freshman are going to need to see some playing time as well

What bothers me the most today is that it isn't even 24 hours since the disappointing loss that ended the season and now 1/2 the team, between those who've exhausted eligibility and the 3 entering the portal, are gone.
Double grieving.
Welcome to the new norm for college sports that’s why it’s still good to cheer for your team but not get emotionally invested anymore

You're right, but it's too bad. Development will no longer be a thing. I had hoped Jackson and Rock would have both benefitted from another off-season with Kyle Green.

Things are changing fast. Rob Jones would not have been at ISU for 3 years if he came in now.

The one thing I’m happy for is that we have such a solid foundation and identity that it allows TJ to get who he knows will work in his system. He knows what he wants and gets it. It’s going to take me a long time to get used to this lack of commitment from players and I don’t think I’ll ever like it as much.

TJ had players meetings today and wants to give the players the best chance to find a school and give us a chance to find replacements.

Any word on Nojus yet? Heard he is a goner also

This would be the first to transfer that would actually suck for me. Didn’t think he got a fair shake and think he’s going to be a stud

I think he should stay. With a year of college under his belt, he should be able to be ahead of 2 if not 3 of the freshmen coming in

I’m optimistic for next season. Milan showed signs of being more aggressive offensively, and I expect him to continue to improve. I also think Batemon, Toure, and Mitchell will all contribute. Also, Lipsey will be healthy. We just need to fill in a couple spots with transfers

No one has any patience anymore. Fans want to win right away. Players want to play right away. Coaches have to look for the quick fix rather than helping a kid develop over a 4 year career.

Is it just players exhibiting a lack of commitment?

Not at all! Every level is doing this. Coaches and fans included. We got lucky to have such a good coach that actually wants to stay here but it’s at every level. I miss the days of sticking it out and fixing your problems, not jumping ship at the first chance you get

My guess is Nojus, Fish, Watson, and possibly Rock. Nojus is a long term guy but the problem is we have guys coming in that will probably pass him on the depth chart already. Fish would be solid at a mid major. Watson should find a system like Bucky McMillans at Samford that is full court press, get up and down the court. I think he would thrive in a system like that.
Selfishly I'd like to see Watson go to UNI. They are losing Tyran Anderson, he could slide right into that type of role for them.

I just don’t get what people are so up in arms about Nojus. He’s going to be in the Watson lane next year. If he sticks around might be rotation in 26-27.

I don’t call it a lack of commitment. You have 4 years of eligibility. Don’t waste them in a system that doesn’t match what you do. If your coach wants a big that can run the floor and you’re a post up player, it’s probably best to find a system that allows you to do that.

I also think for players, being recruited when they were coming out of HS had to be the best time of their lives. Having all these schools and coaches and fans -- at whatever level -- praising you and doting on you and stroking your ego. Who wouldn't love that. Then they get to their school and are just one of the guys, getting screamed at, riding the bench, etc. With the portal guys now get to live out the magic of being recruited not just once but several times throughout college. Because most saw him as the great white annoying shooting guard that other teams love to hate and we deserve to have one of those guys. Also he was a nicely rated four star recruit. He didn’t look the part in the minutes he got this year though.

Everyone is a 4 star now it seems like. If a guy isn’t Top 50 don’t get your hopes up. It was like Top 100 just a few years ago.

He was hyped as a recruit so people get an emotional attachment to something that never existed

Freshmen are lottery tickets. Hope that 1-2 hit, mutually part ways if not. It’s not in the player’s best interest to stay . They need to transfer somewhere in which they can earn their second contract

And we need the space to play the freshmen lottery again

He looked good early, but his handles and defense just weren't up to par for minutes on this team. Both of those can be improved with a dedicated offseason of work if he decides to stay.

Go back and watch the Auburn game in Maui. Kid drove the baseline and tried to dunk on an Auburn big guy and got fouled. He's got game, just didn't get much chance to show it.
