Since this isn't addressed in any of the headlines, this 3% would only apply to bets made in an app, and not bets placed in person at the casinos. Still dumb, but not quite as dumb.

What a bunch of ****. Really hope that crap doesn't pass.

SF 617 on the debate calendar so should be discussed in the next week or two. No additional handle tax in the bill but it does not allow wagering on in-state teams. Sorry Drake. So dumb.

It doesn't allow wagering on individual performances of someone on an in-state team. So, you could bet on Iowa State, but not on how many points a specific ISU player will score.

“Sports wagering” does not include placing a wager on the performance or nonperformance of any individual athlete participating in a single game or match of a collegiate sporting event in which a collegiate team from this state is a participant, or placing a wager on the performance of athletes in an individual international sporting event governed by the international olympic committee in which any participant in the international sporting event is under eighteen years of age.

Unless something has changed in the last week, I don't think this is entirely accurate. I think the bill restricts IN GAME betting on in-state teams and PROP bets on individual players, etc. I don't think it prohibits placing a bet on ISU, IOWA, etc for a game outcome prior to the game starting. Happy to be corrected if I am wrong, but that was the intention as of a few weeks ago when I read up on it.

My bad reading comprehension and listen to local media. lol You are correct. No prop bets on local school individuals. A clean up amendment has been filed so I'm guessing it shouldn't be that long before they debate it. Since the house version is farther behind in the process I'm guessing this will get sent to the House if passed.

It really annoys me that Iowa is so far behind the game on this. If I want to recklessly gamble my money away I should legally be allowed to do so.

I dont gamble outside of office pools, but have no problem if thats what people are choosing to do with their money. My only caveat to legalizing sports gambling would be to restrict where advertising of it is allowed. That year (2017 in think) where Draft Kings and Fan Duel made up 80% of the ads during football season was unbearable.

SF 617 passed the Senate tonight and is now messaged to the House. My understanding is that what was passed with amendments is a mostly agreed to bill so should be brought up soon in the House.

I'm going to go bet against ISU for every game this fall. If history is any indication, this means ISU will go undefeated.

Yes it passed 31-18, will be going to House for vote, if approved, then with head over to Kim’s desk. We are getting closer to having it in Iowa, I’m curious what Hard Rock will do in Sioux City, maybe the front wine bar will turn into sports book since that is basically wasted space right now. I know lobbyists were pushing for the HRock to get it in the casino
