Yes it passed 31-18, will be going to House for vote, if approved, then with head over to Kim’s desk. We are getting closer to having it in Iowa, I’m curious what Hard Rock will do in Sioux City, maybe the front wine bar will turn into sports book since that is basically wasted space right now. I know lobbyists were pushing for the HRock to get it in the casino
where did the riverboats end up in this whole thing?

It really annoys me that Iowa is so far behind the game on this. If I want to recklessly gamble my money away I should legally be allowed to do so.

I don't really follow what is going on in other states, but is Iowa really so far behind on this? I kind of thought Iowa was surprisingly proactive (unlike marijuana for example) but maybe I'm wrong. How many states actually have it now?

Off the top of my head? Nevada, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware and Mississippi. I think there's a few others that have passed but not in place yet

I don't think so. They're near the same point as Colorado as far as I know. Where Iowa was behind other states was with the Fanduel/Draft Kings type stuff that wasn't technically considered sports gambling. There have only been 5 or so states where that has been illegal the last few years and Iowa is one of them.

Off the top of my head I’m pretty sure more than 40 states have legalized DFS.

SIAP but will you be able to bet in state schools with this? I thought I heard something that you might not be able to bet on the Big 4 if it passed

When I briefly grazed over an article you can still bet on the in state schools, they may just not allow in game bets on the state schools.

I’m trying to find the exact article to verify but now I can’t seem to locate it.

This is the best summary I have seen, there are some restrictions on individual players for in state schools, but not a complete ban:
https://cbs2iowa.com/news/local/sports-gambling-bill-clears-iowa-house-heads-to-governors-desk
Betting on minor league, high school and other youth amateur sports is prohibited. The bill also bans in-game bets on an individual player's performance if he or she plays on team at a state college or university. That means, for example, someone could not place a bet on whether or not an Iowa Hawkeye basketball player is going to make a three-point shot while the game is underway.

The proposal would also legalize fantasy sports, allowing Iowans to make bets on sites like FanDuel and DraftKings. Collegiate sports are excluded from fantasy sports until May 2020. Any winnings from sports betting would be taxed at a rate of 6.75% and casinos would pay licensing fees in order to participate.

I actually just saw on a futures "big games" betting lines that Iowa is -6.5 right now. So if you dont know what that means is Iowa is favored by 6.5 points. If you take ISU they have to win or lose by no more than 6 points.
Link? That’ll get bet down in a hurry

When do the betting facilities open? 6.5? I definitely want a piece of that action.
