The umpire was making horrendous ball/strike calls, and some bookie twitter feeds were claiming last nights game was a lock for the Rangers (they won 4-0). Here is the reddit thread. Really interesting stuff...

I saw something about this on Deadspin this morning. Bizarre sequence. Out of context it looks like a total meltdown by the ump. Not that it excuses any of his behavior, but I hope there was something else going on that would at least partially explain it.

I saw something about that this morning, he also tried to goad the Astros pitcher into an argument at the end of one inning and cut short his warmup before the next inning and tried to instigate a fight again.

The difference between called strikes/balls between the two teams is startling. Combine that with the behaviors the ump displayed makes me think he had an ulterior motive.

This video does a good job of showing just one of the situations, the one at the bottom. Guy was just itching for a fight the whole time.
