I just saw Safety Not Guaranteed on Netflix. I'd never heard of it but it was in my Top 10 so we gave it a shot. Excellent flick.

I apologize in advance for any repeats, whipped through the thread quickly.

We could argue about definition of "underrated" (actually, some of you already did that, I notice). It can sometimes lead to comparisons of apples and all-terrain vehicles. That's another topic for another day.

My "short list" (heh-heh) of underrated, for disparate reasons in a wide range of genres:

  • “Primerâ€
  • “Maskâ€
  • "Say Anything"
  • “Take the Money and Runâ€
  • “Runaway Trainâ€
  • "Flirting With Disaster"
  • “Strangers on a Trainâ€
  • "Man on the Moon"
  • "I Love You, Alice B. Toklas!"
  • “Defending Your Lifeâ€
  • "Roxanne"
  • "Gimmie Shelter"
  • "Born on the Fourth of July"
  • "Best in Show"
  • "What About Bob?"
  • "WarGames"
  • “Jesus’ Sonâ€
  • "Waking Life"
  • "Clueless"
  • "Tron" (the '82 version, of course)
  • "Grandma's Boy" (if nothing else, for the line: "Don't judge me, monkey.")
  • "Funny Farm"

Take the Money and Run - I thought was one of Woody Allen's best movies. Annie Hall and Manhattan are the two that are always rated so high and I didn't like either one, but Take the Money and Run was hilarious.

Strangers on a Train - although on some Top 100 lists, is not one of Hitchcock's most well know movies, but is a very clever well thought out movie. I loved it. Although I love about 90% of Hitchcock's movies.
