No idea, but I think it's safe to say the chances are more slim at Bama. Just ask Super Bowl champion Jalen Hurts.
To be completely fair, it’s not like there are five blue chip QB’s sitting there.

Because the all transferred, after the Class of ‘26 #2 player committed.

I’d say the only reasonable chance would be if Kealon Russell struggles mightily this fall.

Who knows, he may flip back.

Sure, that was pre NIL, pre prevalent Portal hopping.

Not really the same.
Can you further elaborate? The poster I am going back and forth is using Jalen Hurts, Tua, and Brock Purdy as a reason that he think Jett is making the wrong decision and will get buried at Bama.

Wouldn’t this (portal hopping era) give him more of a reason to give himself a shot at being Bama’s starting qb and if it doesn’t work out then he can move on pretty easily?

Also the point of my post that you responded to was there is no linear path to being a NFL player at any school.

Look at Cam Ward, Brock Purdy, Mac Jones, Jalen Hurts, the list goes on.

All had different paths and all made the NFL.

Will he be a 3 or 4 year starter at Bama? Time will tell. He likely would have been a 3 or 4 year starter at ISU.
He wouldn't be a four year starter unless he's redshirted since Rocco will be a senior when Thomalla is a freshman. It sucks that Thomalla flipped, but at least we have Manske coming in the fall. Getting commitments from 4 star quarterbacks in back to back seasons (even though Thomalla switched it up on us) is probably partially because of Brock Purdy's success at the NFL level. There will be another good quarterback in the 2026 or 2027 class. Hopefully Manske can fill that gap.

@Pope Mac Jones was lower ranked recruiting wise. Sat 3 years and only started 1 year at Bama. Ended up getting drafted in the first round and getting $15 mil guaranteed.

There are no guarantees when it comes to playing time, career paths, or individual success for any player at any program.
This is true, and he's playing second string behind a QB who had 40+ starts at Iowa State.

My point wasn’t really “a path to the NFL”. It was a path to starting, period.

Which is kinda, pretty much, a requirement.

Will put something together shortly.

A few posters commented about seeing Jett in a few years, but I'm having a hard time envisioning an Iowa State QB in the NIL era that wasn't on campus straight out of HS

Look at JJ Kohl. Similar accolades coming out of high school but got buried and didn't play. The NIL market for guys that have no game tape isn't real high.

If he winds up playing for Alabama then point taken. But if he's not playing I'm not too worried about NIL.

Here is what’s going to happen at Alabama.

‘25
Kealon Russell, the #2 player in the country, is a freshman. It seems likely that he starts.

‘26
Jett Thomalla enrolls. We’ll see how much chance he has to compete. If he doesn’t win the job, he’ll have to wait until ‘28 to compete again.

‘27
Baba signs another blue chip quarterback, telling him he only had to redshirt, then he can compete for the starting job. A quick glance tells me the #2 QB in the country is instate.

‘28
Bama signs another top 3 QB, telling him he con compete to succeed Klein Russell when he’s off to the NFL.

See, that’s what bugs me. Because basically they’re only poaching Jett because they want a backup QB for a year.

Sure, he might win the job at some point. That said, he deserves better.,

Obviously, I'm very biased, but If his dream is to play in the NFL, I think he'd be better off being the man at Big 12 Iowa State than riding the bench at SEC Alabama.

Much of Brock Purdy's success in the NFL is because he had over 40 starts in the Big 12. Good luck getting that at Bama.

@Cy$, thanks for hitting the dumb button. You wanna know what's really dumb, though?

I think ISU has Moberly in there too. Not sure how that impacts things.

Why does he deserve better? He chose to go this route. My guess is Thomalla took the bag of cash. There's also no guarantee for Thomalla to be a starter at Iowa State. Rocco will be a senior when Thomalla is a freshman. Manske is similar in terms of rankings to Thomalla, just the year before him. Sure, the route to gain the starting job at Alabama is tougher than here, but it's not like it's an easy path at Iowa State as a 2026 quarterback recruit. If Manske is the real deal, like his rankings suggest he can be, Thomalla would likely be sitting for three years.

Same as Bama... so I think you are right: Cash payout is the likely tipping point..

It makes more sense to switch the terminology from “commitment” to “unenforceable, flimsy proclamation by humans that only recently spouted peach fuzz”

It was already dumb before NIL. Now it’s not even worth paying attention to.

Thanks for the breakdown. A lot of assumptions but I get what point you are trying to get across.

Having said that “he deserves better..”? It’s his decision. No one is holding a gun to his head.
