Senator's 20 year old daughter avoided injury because Senator's wife threw herself on top of her daughter literally taking bullets for her. Moms are incredible.
Saw on a FB post the wife/mom was on KSTZ Star 102.5 morning show years ago with the radio name of Kelly Foxx. Her co-host then is still there.
Add: pretty sure I remember listening to show right after she had a baby and called in from home. I was driving to Ames to work back then.

Anyone else doing so many youth sports stuff for your kids your head is spinning?
This was me about 25 years ago. 3 kid,s multiple activities. One year my youngest was in soccer, softball, orchestra and ballet with my other 2 in baseball, soccer, track roller hockey. Wife and I thought what are we doing. Once it was over we missed it. Point, it may be crazy at the time but try to enjoy the ride. Great memories.

We used to say we don't have a life, we have kids. There was one night we had to be in Bondurant at 6 (freshman wrestling), Jefferson at 6.30 JV & V wrestling and Huxley at 6.45 (JV basketball). I took Jefferson, he did the other two.

Felt the same may times back in the day. My kids activities were confined the to DSM metro. Can't imagine spreading them across several different cities.

You comment got me thinking. Wife and I are just average people getting through life. What will be our legacy? There will be no buildings named after us, no inventions, no patents, no endowments. What is left will be our children. So, I guess, our children are our are lives. Hopefully we taught them the life skills to get through life. To me these are respect, kindness, consideration and a strong work ethic. I believe we have succeeded .To this day there is nothing, within my means, that I wouldn't do for them.

Apologies, I'm feeling a bit melancholy today.

Think of the buildings on ISUs campus. Do you know who the people are that they are named after? Probably not much about them if you do. Your kids/grandkids are what will carry you on after you pass. Have a good relationship with them and that is what matters.

I had to look up Ernest Lied because his name is on so much stuff in Nebraska. ISU has things named after him as well.

The Rec center (where the wrestling room is) in Richardson court is named Lied. I have no idea who he/she/they were.
Same guy (actually named Ernst). He was from Nebraska but made his fortune in Las Vegas real estate. He had no kids so he started a foundation to give money to stuff around Nebraska, Kansas & Iowa. The rain forest at Henry Doorly zoo. A cancer center in Omaha among the many things the foundation has supported.
