I refuse to get caught up in any of the speculative takes, but the strange thing about this season was up thru mid January our effort and chemistry was consistent and strong. Of course the injuries started happening and that was a huge part of things, but there just seemed to be something else that changed with this team. TJ having to apologize for the lack of effort multiple times over the past month was just a head scratcher. One thing I am confident about in TJ, aside from the fact he is a great coach, is he will continue to learn and adjust at this level, and I believe we will make a final 4 one of these years under him.
That's exactly what it is, I saw lack of effort in this team that I've never seen in a TJ-led team. Yeah, it could be as simple as the injuries wearing on them but it just seemed deeper than that, the competitive juices just seemed to be lacking a bit.

Gotta find depth in the guard court and more athleticism in the front court. We desperately needed a Ward type. Problem is we are looking for the same thing every other damn team needs too

I don't they did.

I think some quite literally think that meant ISU was a shoe in to play for the Natty.

You’re right that it was stupid to assume that. But I swear we could pull 15 podcasts where they talked about final 4 and this team. Part of having an elite program and an elite coach is that those expectations happen.

It would’ve helped a little bit. The biggest thing that would’ve made a difference tonight was if Momcilovic could make a couple in the first half we would’ve been in the game before the last 2-3 minutes of the first. He disappeared after such a good round 1 performance. Jefferson also looked like he could’ve been the difference maker in the first five minutes then turned into a turnover machine that also can’t hit two free throws in a row. Everything went Mississippi’s way, and that scumbag of a human being Beard made adjustments perfectly while we didn’t.

If he was hitting they couldn’t have collapsed the middle

I think Pleta and Toure both play, or at least have good chances to.

There have been plenty of 2 seeds to fall to 15s now at this point. Even 2 one seeds losing to 16s. Our Hampton loss is ancient history.
You don't erase history..Still one of the worst losses in college basketball
Great a few others teams joined them
The path to elite 8 that year was a pretty easy one if not to the final 4

Stanford #1 seed in region
Win first game you played the 10th seed

Brutal loss...

Giving up 96 and 91 in the final tournament games in March from a team known for defensive toughness will leave me questioning what happened to our team down the stretch.
No Keshon and Tamin was injured. That's 2 elite perimeter defenders. When you don't have that you are going to struggle.

If I had to choose between a conference championship and flaming out in the first round in the NCAA tournament as a 2 or 3 or just winning at least 1 game in the NCAA tournament, I’ll pick the NCAA win every time.

It’s way worse for the program to flame out in the first round as a high seed. That gets brought up for decades.
Not excusing the performance, but they lost in the second round.

Disappointing game. It’s just one of those games where we can’t make a basket and the other team can’t miss

Enjoyed this season. I’m just depressed we are now entering the off season.

@CycloneRulzzz - when will the first offseason tournament thread start? I need something to smile about and to look forward to

Might be a month or 2. Need sometime to decompress. We now are entering portal season. Might do it when that part is over.

And two people talking on a podcast doesn't mean much.

I heard a whole bunch about St. Johns last week and that didn't work very well.
