Honestly. We have the fan base right? We have DECENT NIL money to throw around…. Would anyone be upset if Bill resigned and we hired a new coach? I say this because… what’s going to change next year if we keep crooks and brown? It’s not looking like much.
If Bill decided to retire/resign, you can kiss Audi and Addy good bye.

I totally get that. I want both to be here next year but in all honesty what’s going to change next year? We downgrade in pg play next year the way it is. All I’m saying is that it wouldn’t be the end of the world if Bill resigned and we lost both of those gals. Like I said, we have the fan base and enough NIL to get a decent coach in here as well as a roster.

Only two players aren't going to win many games. Our program is more important than two players and I like each of them btw. I wish Bill would retire or other. We act like ISU isn't a good job...its a great job with great support from ISU and fans.

This, what I’ve been preaching all along. ISU women’s bball is a heck of a job, 2 players didn’t get it done this year and it won’t next year.

This is relevant, but it's about as trashy for "journalism" as you can get. Sharing with the ads removed because SI doesn't deserve to earn anything from this.

Basically, they shared some tweets made by people who want Audi to transfer to their school and made an article out of it.

"And in the wake of Friday's loss, some fans on social media are asserting that now is the right time for Crooks to transfer so she can find success at another school."

Fans Call For Audi Crooks to Transfer After Iowa State NCAA Tournament Elimination
Are these the same people who thought Audi should leave Bishop Garrigan High School?

too much messing with line ups and rotations to have the team get real chemistry. We were playing our best ball late in the year once we had a set rotation. Just think what we could have been if we had does this earlier and had another 6 or 8 weeks with the rotations we have been using? Team would have been quite a bit better than we ended up!
This is bologna, but please elaborate for our reading pleasure. If Bill had shortened his rotation to eight players six weeks earlier than he did, which additional teams would ISU have defeated?

I am tired of every women’s basketball thread being about wanting to get rid of the coach. I have mixed feelings on the matter. I think ultimately women would prefer a woman coach but I probably view it based on my creepy inappropriate male hs basketball coach. That is not BF. On the other hand, I think he has earned the right to retire on his terms, not because CF hates him.

I don’t see Bill stepping down or being fired. I don’t see us making a big splash in the transfer portal either. I just can’t see Bill adding an ultra quick PG in the portal. Ideally we would add an experienced PG and a long athletic PF. Regardless if we do or if we don’t, I think we need to do two basic things. 1) Bill has to demand that Audi play defense and rebound at a much higher level. Her lack of effort on defense is a major liability. She shows consistently that she has great, quick feet on offense. We do not see the same on defense. I do think she is capable. Bill is notorious for giving his stars a long leash, but he really needs to express the need for Audi to improve on defense and improve her rebounding. Right now she puts her teammates on an island and the team defense really suffers. 2) I think we need to go away from the ball dominant PG that Bill has historically loved. We constantly see opponents put some quick guard on our PG and she rides her from one end of the court to the other. Take a page from TJ and use multiple ball handlers to get the matchup that best helps our team. TJ almost always has two ball handling guards (Lipsey, Jones, Gilbert) on the court with Jefferson. Any of those guys can bring the ball up and initiate the offense. No reason we can’t do the same with three guards and Brown. He did this some last year when Emily was out because we didn’t have a true PG, but went back to one primary PG again this year. I honestly think we have the pieces to be better next year but we can’t expect improvement without change.

Playing a consistent rotation and not just throwing players in because someone made a mistake is not a good idea I feel. I feel it made our gaurds scared to shoot or played very hesitant for fear of making a mistake and getting benched again. The same rotation of Players on the court consistently will help with on court chemistry. They will learn each other's tendencies and be able to play off them better. I feel we could have won a lot of closer games we had.. with more guard and bench confidence from a consistent rotation. Also everyone saying audi is a major hindrance on defense needs to look a little deeper into our overall defense. Sure she needs improvement but they all do! Most of the times audi was beat is she had to shift to help a guard that got beat to the hoop. Also there are times the players do not play help defense per game plans. Audi held almost all other centers under there averages that she guarded! Look back at the game prince had against her! 1 assist 3 rebounds and 0 points! Things are not always what they seam! Audi is just an easy target for lack of defense because of her "apperance" JMO

Adding a starting point guard and a power forward from the portal is a must. Jackson, Joens and Harris should be the sixth, seventh and eighth players in the rotation. Just too inconsistent offensively.

Yes. I had a career as a teacher. I remember for years my brothers coming home and talking about their big end of year bonuses. I always smiled and said I got two weeks off. One was a VP of one of the largest advertising firms in the country and the other a bigwig in corporate America. After all that…one left to become a minister and the other is now a professor. And I’d say that as a teacher of teachers, I influenced more lives and will continue to change the world in more ways than any corporate earner. I had job satisfaction in spades. That’s worth more than any amount of money.
Good for you! I too was a teacher for 42 years. Feel the same way as you!

I think fans of the women's program might be a little more keyed in to the loyalty thing, where Bill has been a part of it for most of my lifetime. But typically coaches move on much quicker. The money is getting bigger for WBB just like MBB. If your team doesn't win enough, there is a lot of chatter about how you suck. Joshua Jefferson dealt with some real crap from burners online based on what his mom tweeted after we lost a tough game. In CBB, you will perform as a player or there is a very good chance you'll be recruited over and gently or not so gently told to move on.

These are all things that maybe shouldn't happen, but I hate when people talk about what should and shouldn't happen. We live in the world as it is. And like Dan Hawkins said, this ain't intramurals brother, winning is the name of the game and it has been for a long time. We just let it hang out a lot more now.
The longevity of our staff is a definite factor. It’s also how they have fostered “the Iowa State Way.” We've seen examples of what players do outside the program that have impacted the community and individuals. When a dear friend (the guy who introduced me to ISU WBB and a Power of the Pops originator) was dying of cancer a year ago, Coach Fen made a point of reaching out and Dale's hospital room in Iowa City (love the irony here) was filled with Iowa State gear. He and these kids don’t have to do this stuff, but the staff is teaching them how to be good human beings.

Strictly in terms of character, I’m not sure you could ask for a better human being than Bill and Deb in our program.

In regards to rotational issues, you don’t need to look further than Tanke or Joens to see just how much the staff struggled to figure out the right group on the court. Tanke would randomly play 25 minutes one day and 2 the next.

Joens is a scrappy MFer, and while I love Audi, she’s slow and incredibly limited in agility. She needs to be surrounded by scrappy MFers, and I’m not sure we had any moreso than Joens. Feel similar to Jackson.

Find a PG who doesn’t get ridiculously lazy when getting the ball to Audi and we’re fine.

Audi is an Iowa girl and I can't see her going any where else except to another Iowa school and UNI & Drake are not a way to a national championship and I don't see U of I in the picture.

I'll speculate there is absolutely no way in the known universe of choices that Crooks leaves. I think she is perfectly content at ISU. She is treated like a diva by the staff and fans here with little real "pressure" evident. The entire scheme on both ends of the court are designed to accommodate her. That would not be the case elsewhere. She's better suited and seems very happy being the big fish in a smaller pond. She's quite personable and likeable but that isn't what drives things at this level, it's winning and there would be a lot of pressure elsewhere she does not have at ISU.

I sort of lean to Brown staying to. Our no tempo offense seems suited to her style. She seems best when the tempo is slower and she can get a mismatch on a small guard but turnover prone when things speed up too much. She's a different sort of player and hard to figure (at least to me) how she would best fit in somewhere.

The wildcard of transfers out is how content everyone else is playing in a system almost entirely devoted to Crooks strengths and weaknesses. That plays big into who might want to come here also. I am not optimistic about getting much added via the portal. If that's the case people will blame NIL but I think it will be the situation not being as attractive as ISU fans think it is.

I really think we will look to the portal to replace what we lose to the portal. I also doubt we do much roster building through the portal.

I know this is an unpopular opinion but I'm not sure this is true. I hope there is less dribbling and more ball movement next year.

I will miss Emily Ryan, I think knows the game really well and would go on 5 minute stretches where she could take over a game.

But I just have to disagree with anyone who thinks we will automatically have a downgrade in PG. This team is still playing if the Drake or UNI PGs.

The defensive game plan this year was pretty simple - stay in front of Emily and Addy and if the ball stops, they’re passing to Audi. Got to get a PG that can score off the dribble
