I guess it’s maybe just me but I hate when the CyHawk is in Ames. We haven’t won it at home lately and it’s stressful with a lot of the stuff that goes on. Glass bottles chucked over the stadium wall, Hawk fan in row behind us puking all over, guys not waiting for a kybo to open up and whipping it out to pee in front of little girls, etc. One year our dog sitter texted us about pickup time needing to change cause her boyfriend was at the game and she had to go bail him out of jail.

Inflation is killing our family budget. Especially after our 3rd child was born this spring...

We had fun at one tailgate this year but cannot really afford much else.. I need a meaningful raise before Cyclone athletics gets more of my budget
This is definitely part of it. The Game Day experience has gone downhill over the years (moving the student section was part of this). Meanwhile the Hi Def viewing experience from the comfort of my living room has dramatically increased. Go take a look at the Smoking Meat forum and you'll see that more and more people are enjoying the joys of smoking, tailgating in their garage, and hosting groups of people, and I think the combo of all the above is most of the answer.

Duh!
i think fans should do what they want, and are comfortably able to do, to support the AD. It seems like the current donors are carrying most of the water (at various levels) and often supporting We Will too. They are tapped.

there also seems to be an either/or situation at CF. There are those that do what they can and those that don’t do anything. I feel like the latter needs to contribute to move the needle any future. You don’t have to be a season ticket holder or even attend games in person to support the AD or We Will. Enjoy the game at home and throw a bone to support the Clones. Every bit adds up.

this is going to be a challenging portal season in December.

I give what I feel is comfortable for me. I am a lifelong Iowa State fan and that didn't change when we were losing either. I will an Iowa State fan in the future and until I die. I give what I can and support mainly support wrestling, but watch most Iowa State football and basketball games. I do drink Ames Lager and will be stocking up on Blood Round (West O's wrestling NIL beer)

We go to every home football game and most of the bowl games. I'm getting tired of the constant "ask" for NIL donations and other stuff. I understand the need for it but it's a huge turn-off when I'm told "well if you don't support it we'll lose players" or "just throw them a few bucks."

For the vast majority of fans, they buy tickets, cable packages, and merch prices that have doubled in a few years. Whatever the financial structure is, most people lump everything above into "supporting ISU". It's frankly annoying to be told you're not doing enough when you've given tens of thousands over the years.

You guys realize it is possible to make the minimum required donation and buy tickets. You don't need a parking pass, you don't need to buy food at the game, etc. There are plenty of free parking spots within a quick walk of the stadium.

Just noticed looking ahead we don't have Iowa scheduled from 2028 on. I have to be wondering if this scheduling mess with the Big 10 and SEC will kill that game.

The nearest P4 team not in the Big 10, SEC, or Big 12 is Louisville. Not exactly what I would call local enough to draw interest.
I dont think that it has ever been scheduled ahead more than a handful of years at a time.

So, I dont believe that is a sign of anything, either for or against that game remaining on the schedule.

I don't think so but I'm afraid for the day when a high profile player on the basketball team or football leaves. So far we've been very lucky. Maybe not lucky since we have great coaches and players have been sticking around.
But I think this current landscape is just silly. And with the ultra rich schools wanting even more of the pie I just want to get over with this in-between time.
Also there were only like 500 tickets left as of yesterday supposedly. That's less than 1% of the stadium so it's not like we're way below capacity if those don't get sold.

Some current numbers for everyone:

Cyclone Club donors-6,000
We Will donors-4,500

I'm guessing that's a lot of the same folks. I think you're correct in that these folks largely can't continue to do it on their own (we're already seeing some regression on our end numbers wise) and we will need new donors to stay competitive especially as the SEC and Big Ten siphon more of the dollars. But totally understand it's a personal decision, just wanted to provide some info.

Just curious what would be your preferred method to share about NIL? Honestly want your feedback because I hear both sides of people getting tired of being asked and people saying they know nothing about NIL and how they can support.

I'm just not into college football as much anymore with the NIL bs and conference realignment. The only time I'll go anymore is when i get free tickets to the K-State game.

Sporting events in general are also pricing out the average fan. I'd rather stay home and watch for free.
agree with sporting events pricing out the average fan. my wife and i were season ticket holders to the texas rangers for 27 years. when they built their new stadium-which sux compared to their previous one-ticket prices went through the roof. we do go see the clones whenever they play at tcu and baylor.

The current landscape is nuts. However, the hand ringing over losing all our best players hasn't come to pass like some people predicted.

In fact, in this era of NIL, we currently have a Final Four caliber men's hoops team, a women's team that should be really good, and perhaps a football team that might be an all-timer when it's all said and done.

Guys wanting the money over everything else will always, and has always been a thing. Pre-NIL just had the bagman instead of "NIL donors".

On top of the normal expenses, we’re being coerced to buy white shirts (which isn’t even one of our colors) to go to the game. I don’t wear white…
99.9% of people have a white shirt. They aren't making you go buy a white T-shirt to wear on a 90 degree day. Go to Goodwill and buy one for .50 and you will have it for next year or if they have a white out during basketball. Just have fun with it. I am glad you wear the cardinal and gold when they have those days.

I don’t think the asks are too over the top. You have to get the word out but I don’t think I get too many asks for NIL. Of course I did donate for the first time to a political campaign and now I get 50 emails a day asking for money…so in comparison not bad
