Not exactly sure.
I neglected to make the quarterly estimated pmts from some S-corp income a few years ago. Luckily, the penalties weren't too bad, a few hundred bucks. But now the biz is doing better it would be a ton more now, so maybe I learned my lesson at low cost.

Also, taxes suck. Both how much of it is squandered, and how complicated it is. Think what 500,000 accountants could accomplish with all that brain power if they weren't getting paid to decipher the tax code.
Interest rates were very cheap a few years ago, much higher now so the same amount would be much more.

traipsing thru the treetops
Random lyrics that just popped into my head as I was making a turkey and avocado sammich.

Well, another man might have been angry
And another man might have been hurt
But another man never would have let her go
I stashed the bill in my shirt

Noise level is down to 35 Db in the house since the lawn minions left so I guess there is room in my brain for randomly accessing quieter acoustical songs.

Hugely screwed up my Federal withholding. Gonna get tagged with a big underpay penalty.

We fixed mine last year. Turns out rev's was screwed up, too. We're looking to slam through paying that as opposed to this whole year of paying 2022's taxes. In a few weeks, we'll only be paying one year at a time.
Pretty giddy about that bill dropping off. It's a huge part of the monthly $1k of bills we have leaving the scene here very, very soon.

@ Clonelawman got to see Zevon in a 2 man show at 1st Ave in the Cities one yr, couple of years later dead of cancer(?). Pretty darn good show.
Wife was mad, she didn't want to go but mad when I went with work buddy (male before BC suggets otherwise:))oh well just another reason she's a ex.

It was one of my favorite shows. Granted I don't go to a ton of concerts.

He was unique. Was he playing some of his Life Will Ya' stuff at the show? I think he recorded that album before he was diagnosed with cancer but it proved at least mildly prophetic.

From the President of the United States
To the lowliest rock and roll star
The doctor is in and he'll see you now
He don't care who you are
Some get the awful, awful diseases
Some get the knife, some get the gun
Some get to die in their sleep
At the age of a hundred and one

Life'll kill ya
That's what I said
Life'll kill ya
Then you'll be dead
Life'll find ya
Wherever you go
Requiescat in pace
That's all she wrote

… Well, I went to the doctor
I said, "I'm feeling kind of rough"
He said, "I'll break it to you, son"
"Let me break it to you, son"
Your ****'s ****** up."
I said, "my ****'s ****** up?"
Well, I don't see how-"
He said, "The **** that used to work-
It won't work now."

Filed yesterday and we owe Iowa taxes for the first time in I don't know how many years. Our state and federal have never been "close" but with a federal refund, the 2023 discrepancy is mind-blowing. Thanks, Iowa legislators.

I got a small refund from federal and had to pay into state. I have an extra $400 a month taken out of my paycheck to help with federal. I couldn't figure out how to get a little extra held for the state

I assume your state percentage went down but they weren't collecting as much from your pay check? State income tax rates went down for everyone Iowan in 2023 right?

Neither of us changed anything for withholding on our paychecks. We think it's because we're now forced to use the same filing status for Iowa as for federal. In the past, we used different for state because it was better financially for us. Thus the "thanks." We now no longer have that choice.
