13th seems pretty low.
I agree but I sort of see the logic.

Haven't been to E8 or above for a while. The coaching, players are proven during season play. Just no actually getting close to the championship game in our recent history. So it makes sense to be a bit hesitant to see us making that huge of a jump in NCAA tourney performance.

For ISU to be a legit national title contender, at least one of the guys has to develop into a first round pick. The obvious candidate is Milan.

And another one :)

4. Iowa State

Projected starters: Tamin Lipsey, Keshon Gilbert, Curtis Jones, Milan Momcilovic, Dishon Jackson (transfer)

Notable returners: Demarion Watson

Other newcomers: Nate Heise (transfer), Nojus Indrusaitis, Dwayne Pierce

Depending on who else Iowa State adds in the portal, this could end up being an even better team than the 2024 Big 12 tournament champs. The Cyclones return their four leading scorers in Gilbert, Lipsey, Jones and Momcilovic and already have landed an offensive upgrade at center in Charlotte transfer Jackson, who averaged 11.4 points and 6.1 rebounds per game this season. Northern Iowa transfer Heise, who averaged 13.5 points per game, could become a starter or sixth man, depending on whether T.J. Otzelberger wants to keep Jones in the role of microwave man off the bench. Otzelberger and his staff have done an excellent job at identifying under-the-radar guys in the portal who fit their culture. So it’s almost at the point that anyone he signs from the portal you just assume they’ll outperform expectations. Defensively, the Cyclones should once again be one of the best in the country, especially if they land at least one more athletic big.

1. Typical message board fan understands that relying heavily on freshmen doesn't work well any more
2. A year later CBB writers think they are saying something interesting when they state the same thing
3. CBB writers turn around and rank Duke #1
4. CBB writers rank Purdue #2 after still understanding that the single most heavily relied upon player in CBB in years is going to be replaced by a guy that played like 3 min a game.

ESPN's way too early top25 has 5 Big12 Teams in top10, going to be rough conf again:
3:Kansas, 5: ISU, 7: Houston, 8: Arizona, 10: Baylor (14: BUY, 25:Cincy)

As long as get some production from the transfer Bigs, the good thing is ISU has lot of experience coming back at guards and Milan who has potential to make big leap in ability to help offense. Not really being dependent on any freshman, seems like ISU's floor is to be really good next year as long as Team stays together and focused which seems to be TJs strength. Small improvement in offense could make Team a true Final4 contender
