He'll be fine. He's been waiting for that moment for a long time and was just overly amped up.

I was fully expecting us to run a lob play for him to get him going.

I don't think you understand.

The guy needed to be perfect but wasn't so now he won't be the source of our happiness for 4 months.

I wasn't concerned, as it seems one of the referees was intent on calling fouls on him. His first 3 were pretty sketchy.

Not worried about Omaha. Milan was masterful, did NOT act like a freshman. And you're gonna have to guard Lipsey this year, Big 12, no camping in the lane.
I'm not overly concerned unless it becomes a trend. I just was expecting him to look much better in game 1. Maybe I had to high of expectations for him though

I do agree that he looked over amped. Yeah I thought TJ would get him a lob. It would have let him relax a bit and get some confidence. If he'd have made it, the roof would have come off of hilton!!

I like the fact that we can feed Tre King and Demarion Watson down low to drive and murder those rims. Insert Omaha in this discussion too. But for those two, that’s their bread & butter.

Hope we can exploit that more with our offensive sets and schemes. If so, look out!!

So was boom goes the dynamite. I have sympathy but one of the cuts to her sounded almost like she had a stroke.

I mean this sincerely, I used to work for the sports talk show on the student TV station at ISU when I was there.

I am extremely, extremely grateful everything we produced was on betamax and nowhere else, because I was absolute **** at it. Like embarrassing stuff.

Due to all of the broadcasts happening all of the time sometimes people will get the opportunity before they are totally ready. And that's fine, it's not her fault. She'll get better.

What a great start to the season. This team has players all across the board and it was so nice to see them all step into their shots and just shoot it and believe in themselves. Can't help but feel this team has a much higher ceiling than we've had in a long time which is fun to consider.

Ok, now for the handwringing this board is known for. Haha. Sorry in advance, but can't help it as the only thing I'm a bit worried about is there is not enough playing time to go around. It's a good problem to have, but man, we brought guys off the bench that 1.) won the rookie of the year in their conference, was invited to Team USA basketball workouts and nearly 500 point scorer at Wofford in Paveletzke (who only got mop up garbage duty), 2.) got invited to Team USA basketball and top 15 in the country recruit in Biliew, and 3.) a 3rd team All MAC performer and led his team in scoring last year at more than 15 a game in Curtis Jones. That's our bench! Studs. Hope there's enough playing time to go around somehow. The other players are all great, but hope those guys (and Paveletzke in particular as he only got garbage duty yesterday) get some more PT in meaningful mintues. Maybe a few less minutes for someone like Rob Jones who is limited offensively for smaller ball lineup based on the team we're playing or a minute less here or there for Gibson or Lipsey?

A GREAT problem to have, but watching someone like Paveletzke at Wofford reminded me of a player like Brady Heslip at Baylor. The dude can contribute and would start for a large number of other Big XII teams (not all), and has great awareness. If he's buried on the bench here and relegated to mop-up minutes, and not even meaningful 5 or 6 minutes a half, he'll be gone. Would hope he can find some more PT as the year goes on.

In the CF tradition, got to find something to ***** about! But all-in-all, that was refreshing. Gilbert had some great drives, defense and tenacity. Lipsey was his usual stud-self on defense and hawking the ball, great at driving, took care of the ball and then stepped up and just let it fly on O! That's awesome. Tre King continues to be a beast and I think we'll get even more production from him this year as he gets more PT. Biliew will just get better and better and I wouldn't be surprised if he's starting later in the year. Just fun stuff to watch overall and makes me feel better about this team's ceiling.

Edit: can't leave out Momcilovic as well who appears to have a very well-rounded game and the ability to just stroke it. We will need that and his skills at his size are wonderful to have.
It's all about buying in, and it seems that TJ and staff do a good job of finding players that will, and creating that type of culture. We had 9 guys with 10+ minutes (5 w/20+, 4 w/10+ and Pav with 6). They rotated freely in and out and foul trouble will alter the minutes here and there too. Best part was that I didn't really see any drop off in that top 9.

I am not concerned about Billew at all because they don't need him to be all world to be good. That is the good thing about this team. He was always a raw offensive product. He also looked lost at times defensively. But he will contribute this year in some form or fashion and will get better as the year progresses. Good news is it looks like they will have him for multiple years.

If it were just a local thing like the ISU station it could be something her and friends could laugh about since she's new but it sucks that the social media world has to expand on the scrutiny like it actually matters.

I didn’t think it was bad for a first timer. I’m glad we have someone that could fill in for a sideline reporter. Maybe in a couple years she will be big time and it will be great to have someone like that representing ISU.
I have worked with Jess Settles from time to time for 10 years and remember him being terrible when he started. I think he has become a pretty decent analyst (for a hok) after several years of practice. The young lady last night provided some insight, just needs practice like everyone.

The offense looked a little hero-ballish for my blood. Didn't see a ton of sets being run. I am ok with it given the result. 85 points might as well be 110 for what we expect out of a TJ squad so far! It was a glorified scrimmage, so not expecting TJ to be using the entire playbook by any means

If you look across the country there are really only a handful of Freshman that are going to be really high impact guys. The 23 class was considered a down class. I have been doubtful of Billew being one and done for awhile.

This. Also, it is pretty clear TJ's emphasis will remain on the defensive side of the floor. I am assuming guys like Pav and CuJo are just a bit behind in that regard compared to Lipsey (obvi) and Gilbert (dawg). Guys who defend the best are going to get the lions share of minutes. I know the competition wasn't great, but thought Milan looked very good on the defensive side of the floor. Perhaps he has put the work in to improve there hence getting the starting nod.

I wonder. Is this the same referee we had for the Kansas game Sat. night?

Well, he certainly didn't look like a one and done. The potential jumps off the screen at you, but he is severely lacking polish and refinement at this point. He is saying the right things so far, regarding playing at ISU and buying in. We will see if his tune changes throughout the year, let alone his performance. I am hoping he is patient and lets the game come to him vs pressing and trying to show everyone he is a one and done. I keep pointing to a guy from last years class that was a one and done at Duke, despite averaging just 5 and 5 for them last year. I am talking about Dereck Lively II, who is off to a pretty good start for the Mavs.

Quite honestly I'm amazed that ESPN sent a broadcast team of any sort in site for this game let alone one with a sideline reporter.
I was expecting some Ex Baylor doing play-by-play from his couch while sipping on a Shiner Bock.
King McClure will be back come January, rest assured. I think he did start travelling to the sites last year.

ESPN+ broadcasts are run by the school hosting them. It's up to Iowa State to put together a team. Do people really think ESPN sent BJ Schaben to this game?

It's labeled as an ESPN broadcast, but it's essentially the ISU local access crew, which is usually a lot of journalism students.

My bad. I did not know that. Thanks for the clarification

Last night concerned me how many open 3 pointers we allowed. So I checked. Last year we allowed 33.7% shooting from 3 point line. That ranked us 183rd in the country. 9th out of 10 conference teams.

It seemed like Green Bay had figured out, as will everyone, pass away from the double team, find the wide open shooter. So I think our defense causes turnovers and limits points in the paint, but if a team has a couple 3 point shooters, they could pick us apart.

Overall, I really like this team and we have some fantastic potential. But we do seem to have that one weakness. What's better this year, unlike last season, I think we have the offensive firepower to outscore a team that does happen to hit several 3's. I expect a fun season for sure!!
