So does anyone know if the west gates are going to be open? Someone said they weren't last week. Did anyone go through the west gates last week?

I thought they were open, but it's stupid there is no way to get to them from the hilton lots. That used to halve the amount of people going in the north gate. ISU should have built a walk way from the north.

Every game, concert, and event I've gone to in the past two years has had mobile-only tickets. And I've been to a lot in the past two years. NFL games. Taylor Swift concert. MLS games. MLB games.
Target Center events.

Why is it only Iowa State football that can't figure it out?

but there was no plan to deal with any of it other than force people to stand there and wait. Pollard does deserve the heat for that.

And he addressed it yesterday.

Turnstiles going away.
Better troubleshooting training for staff.
More people to assist.
Pulling people with problems out of line to help them and keep the line moving.

People reluctance to change is pathetic. I was there, I stood in line and I can say from first hand experience that the majority of “issues” I saw was user error. People can sh!t on JP all they want but this wasn’t an Iowa state decision, it was Ticketmaster.

I was in my seat for kickoff but on the south entrance, several of the machines were not working or would have an issue. But I am sure a lot of it was user error.

But its not just the ticket issue. Construction, parking, cost, fees, requiring fans to pay players through NIL, commercials, etc. etc. are going to push people to stay at home at watch on TV. ISU is lucky with our fan base but you have to give people reasons to come to games, not excuses not to.

Yep I saw several people trying to use screenshots. If only Iowa state would have put out a message before hand….

Simple fix - have people standing outside the gates telling people screenshots don't work before letting them get in the ticket line to slow everything up. But instead, fans get blamed for not showing up early and the AD gets to say "no one will work for $10 per hour anymore". I get that change is hard but not having contingency plans to accommodate so the people who are doing the right thing don't miss 1/4 of a game they probably paid $100+ per ticket to see.

I left my tailgate at 12:20, didn't get in until 5 min left in the first quarter.
That's crazy. East gate? We went in through the North, which I would think is the busiest gate (maybe not) and had no issue. Timeline was about the same as yours. Maybe we just barely missed the logjam by a couple minutes.

maybe everyone wouldn't show up at the last possible minute if they didn't shorten our tailgating window. last week I felt like by the time I got everything set up and made food it was time to pack up and go in. I wasn't purposefully waiting until 12:30 to get in, but I needed that much time to do what we wanted to do.

It's just a bit puzzling to me how if you're able to scale up like this in six days' turnaround between events why you don't just do this in the first place. But better late than never.

Going to the game a little earlier when you know there’s new technology is usually just common sense. There’s always difficulties with a new transition. It’s also common sense that people don’t want to do these types of jobs anymore so finding people to do them is harder than ever, even with starting pay being more than double what it was 3 years ago.
pay starts at $10/hr
so you're saying 3 years ago workers were paid $5/hr?

I remember being mad at husband because of all his dawdling, as I like to be at the gate an hour before kickoff. I like to watch players warming up and the whole pregame stuff.

We got to the north gate at 12:25. We must have dodged a bullet, all of the lines were short.

I kinda wish all the people who think that collecting welfare is some kind of lottery would just go quit their job and collect welfare. For as much as they complain about it, you'd think they were jealous of those folks.

The biggest problem in finding employment is that there are literally less people around to work, period. The boomers were part of these massive families where everyone had 6 kids. Those 6 kids went on to have 2-3 kids, and their kids are maybe having 1 or 2.

We are literally making less people, so when someone from the boomer generation retires, there literally might not be someone (any one) to take their place.

It was shortened by an hour wasn't it? In the past couldn't we go in at 6 for any tailgate and this time it was 7? Maybe I'm misremembering from last year.
You're misremembering. It's always been 6 hours before or 7 am, whichever comes first for the Donor lots. Now, if the game is at 11, they won't let you in until 6 and you have a legitimate gripe. But 1 pm - 6 hours = 7 a.m., which is right in line with the old rules.

60,000 people trying to enter the game 10 minutes before kickoff is going to be a problem no matter what. We got to the gate 30 minutes before kickoff for the UNI game and got right in.
What gate? My son and I were at Gate 1 1 hour before kickoff and waited 45 min to get in.
