Jamie Pollard's advice to fans for Cy-Hawk? 'try to be at the gates by 1:45 p.m.'

I think I read on here that Jamie wasn't even aware of the problem at the time. Really, a new system and he wasn't monitoring it carefully for problems?
Why / how would Jamie even know there was an issue. He showed up hours early and I'm sure he got waived right in with no Ticket to have to scan. Plus he was getting to enjoy the game, probably from an air conditioned space.
I can admit me and those in my group were about 5 minutes behind our normal walk up to the stadium time, when a 7th grader in our group asked if we were going to miss kickoff. His Dad said nahh, we'll be good, I looked at the kid and said ooooh we're definitely missing kickoff. But the additional 45 minutes waiting at the North Gate was insult to injury. I had our 5 tickets loaded in my Google Wallet, NFC tap thing all ready to go, and had to listen to the roars of the crowd while trying not to lose my mind waiting in line. We knew we were running a little late, but man it sucked. Plus it seemed the lane dividers need extended out to Jack Trice Drive bc tons of people at the North Gates were cutting in from the sides. Managed to just get in and sat down to see Rocco squeeze it in on 4th and goal.

So glad I'm not attending this game. It was already going to be a major disaster getting into the game..... but with Trump attending... major disaster is an drastic understatement. Pollard should have politely told him no. This will not go well.
Trump is going to be sitting in some big donors box on their invitation, so I doubt very much Jamie is going to tell anyone like that no.

The camera screen shots him, some start to cheer some start to chant lock him up and Jack Trice dissolves into England style soccer riots. The CyHawk series then gets canceled through no fault of its own.

Every time Trump comes to the Cy-Hok game it is in Ames. I think he would do well in Iowa City. ;):cool:o_O

How much longer can we blame Covid for our shortcomings?
How do you not have a ******* backup of paper tickets or something else scannable when the inevitable happens and the system goes down?
Not everyone is going to have phones that work properly. Asking the blue hairs to figure this **** out is ridiculous.

Computers have been a part of society for 30 years. If someone can’t figure it out, **** ‘em. They just refuse to learn.

This works nationwide in other venues...

My notice to Jamie Pollard: I will be sitting in my recliner in my living room with the TV on by kick-off. This blue hair will enjoy his Saturday.

Want to know what keeps people at home?

45 mins to get into a game where it used to take 10-15 mins.

Construction on the main road you want people to take causing it to take 1.5 hours to get out of the lot and through said construction.

Paying hundreds of dollars per person per game for the pleasure of these inconveniences and then telling people it’s their fault for coming…

People reluctance to change is pathetic. I was there, I stood in line and I can say from first hand experience that the majority of “issues” I saw was user error. People can sh!t on JP all they want but this wasn’t an Iowa state decision, it was Ticketmaster.

It sucked. It's probably going to suck this weekend too but it is also probably going to get a lot better. If things aren't better later then I guess you have to decide if it's worth it. Right now it's a change that requires some patience but I don't think it is going to be long term at all.

Same was true in my experience on the north end 45 min prior. Though I do think apparently a couple videos explaining things and the how to must of been necessary for some.

There have been countless reports of technology failure. That you didn't experience or see it doesn't mean it didn't happen.

Complaining about change is as much a fact of life as change itself is. I don't have much patience for it myself. But if the new system works, people come around and soon enough it's the new normal.

That very plainly did not happen here. Some technology failed, other places people were slow (which is 100% predictable when using new technology), but there was no plan to deal with any of it other than force people to stand there and wait. Pollard does deserve the heat for that.

I saw a lot of user error at the North gate including people trying to download their tickets because they realized the “no screenshots” thing wasn’t a joke.
Yep I saw several people trying to use screenshots. If only Iowa state would have put out a message before hand….
