If it's about picking the player that had the most positive overall impact, it's Monte every time.
His expected win shares per 40 minutes his senior year was .210. So, if the rest of the players on a team could play at his contribution level you would project to win 105 out of 100 games.
I did vote Niang for this question though.
This team needs proven offense.
His senior year scoring chops are head and shoulders above the other players. A true shooting percentage of 62.5% with a usage rate of 28.7% is filthy.
Also, he would fill more of a position of need (I am a Lipsey fanboy and wouldn't want to see his minutes cut into).
His vocal leadership I think would be better than Monte's too, but if you're looking for intangibles then Hogue's toothpicks and karate kicks trump everyone else.
He was a very smart guy on the court. I sure hope you aren’t implying he’s smart off the court though..
I went with Niang since I have no idea what the many new guys will be like against best in the country competition. He is the Swiss Army knife. White sort of was too but the conference map has expanded and not sure he’s going to make it to the road games.
Niang will help beat the press, knock down threes, create and distribute for others, and can play the interior. His 20 points in the second half in the Oklahoma comeback game in Hilton were what magic is all about.

You are completely taking the first half non-con season out of Haliburton's hands. He was going to light it up his Sophomore year with scrubs on the floor with him. He is by far the guy to add to this roster.

Politics aside, he's not nearly as smart as he thinks he is. He's unique, but it's a lot of gibberish
His performance vs. UVA in the sweet 16 was pretty special too. He was singlehandedly keeping us in the game in the 2nd half.
He certainly likes to talk in ways that appear intelligent. That doesn’t always mean someone is smart.

And the epic battle in the Big XII tournament vs OU and Buddy Hield. Hield with 39 and Georges 31 (25 in the 2nd half).
I went with Naz Long, specifically senior year Naz though, so Nazareth Mitrou-Long is who I would really want.
Logic: I just think this team might still be one guard short. Time will tell on that, but give me Naz as a guy who I think could play in TJs system and be a deadly shooter AND a guy who by his senior year could also get downhill and score at the rim.

Naz wouldn't be my choice, but there probably aren't any more guys that hit clutch shots than him. Two games against Oklahoma State, towards the end against North Carolina, and a big 3 against Nevada in the NCAA tournament when they were making a run in the 2nd half.
The look on Roy Williams' face when he saw Naz get the ball, wide open before he nailed that three, is priceless.
