Royce was great but as for who could best be plugged in with any other 4 and make a huge impact, it’s Niang or Burton.
It’s not Niang. He couldn’t play in the no middle D. At least not with college Georges body mass. He would have constantly been trailing and out of position. Fans would be yelling for him to get benched more than they do at Robert Jones now.

This would track if he was guarding a wing or a guard, which he would never be doing on this team. He at least would be a net neutral due to his ability to score. That’s more than any returning post can say.

Are they gonna rescheme the D to allow Georges on the floor for 30+ minutes per game? In Hoiball Georges > Ejim. But not Otlzslbergerball.

Yea. Otz has shown over his career that he schemes his teams strengths.

Royce White, just because. One of the main 'because' reasons is that we only had him for 1 year, and I would have loved to have seen him more in an ISU uniform. And what a team we would be if we had him. He could facilitate if others were on. Or he could take over offensively. And he could rebound!

I LOVE Georges, he was a perfect Hoiball player. But as other posters have noted he could get exposed in the Otz defense that is responsible for the last two years of success.

Obviously Milan won’t be anywhere near Niang’s level, but I’m hoping we get some Niang-Esque play from him this year. So maybe there is a bit of that on the roster already.

I’m still going with Monte

I took Royce as choice 1. However, how could you not go with Georges, Melvin, Monte? Take your pick. Love those three and all three were 4 year players, might be rare from here on?

Micah Byers reaction was the most underrated part of that. Monte at the very end too.

Could not go wrong with picking Deonte Burton. Love that guy! Great person also.

Here was a taste of what was to come, a clip of a Burton monster jam while at Marquette.

Give me the Melvinator. I want rabid junk yard dogs.
I'm nowhere near the biggest Ejim fan (relative to our other favorites), but he was my first instinct because of his all around play, toughness, and leadership. We really need a premium big man more than anything, but Hoiberg's rosters didn't have many. So someone that we know will grab 10 boards a game would be most important.

It’s impossible to pick Ejim because Niang was much better at that position.
I guess they were both 4s, but that doesn't mean much. They had much different roles. Niang was a great offensive player, but he also routinely let big men get to the hoop because we couldn't afford to have him in foul trouble. Ejim used his physicality better, and I think that's what this roster would need.

I was able to sit close to the action in those years, and Ejim was the best I've ever seen at anticipating the ball off the rim and snatching it right out of the cylinder. That's why he was an elite rebounder despite his lack of height inside. He was a freak. Terrible hands, but an athletic freak.

I picked Ejim with an asterisk. Only if we are talking senior year ME. He was not good as a freshman, but no one ever improved more over the course of their ISU career. If we're picking someone to just come in and make this team better in their first year, got to be Royce or Niang.
