I would guess they tried something as the game went on but if there's other capable guys there's not much you can do.

I remember seeing Nick Collison play twice in the state tourney and it was lob city but Iowa Falls had very good talent all over.

High school ball is especially prone to this. Pewaukee has other good players so you can't just double him constantly or anything, and there are very few high school defenders in the country that would take Milan off his game totally. He was also pretty much unstoppable in AAU against pretty much everyone.

Dekker was more of a guard than Milan will be IMO, and was likely a better pure athlete, but Milan is a lot more polished and has a better shot coming into college.

I don't think so. His best comparison is Niang. Milan might be slightly taller/longer and is a better 3pt shooter and mid-range shooter than Niang was, but Niang was heavier and probably a little better in the post because of it. Milan will probably get pushed around in the post a little next year. Niang didn't have that probably as a freshman, he was pretty strong.

Milan isn't the athlete that Dekkers or Grady **** are.

I do think Milan's fadeaway gives him game in the post pretty early, at least from time to time. He's gonna have the length to get it off over basically everyone except true 5s and I think it's a look we'll see a lot with him.

It feels cheesy to just say "oh his best comp is a former Cyclone" but I do think we see a Niang-like impact as a freshman on offense. Georges was a major piece immediately on a talented roster and did so many things on offense and we're getting another guy who can fit that mold. IDK if he's starting right away, but he'd be an outlier for guys ISU has ever landed in the top 75 and under range to not be starting at some point, and even those that didn't start played a lot immediately.

I think one play kinda typified what went wrong. Hinson had just made a great fade away jump shot with 2 defenders in his face. The immediate possession by Xavier a kid drove the lane and Hinson played matador defense, bumped him anyway and got a foul. I think we just have to accept that NOT EVERY player is going go 'buy in' to TJ's defensive style. Or even preseason conditioning. But, yes, would have been nice to have his offense.

I actually am betting on Tamin being on that list. I think he’ll shoot 30% from 3 and will develop a floater and a pull up in the offseason.

I'm not saying it won't happen and hopefully he will improve but I don't see how everyone expects Tamin to immediately be a good offensive player next year when he's been playing for 10 - 12? years. Just like other guys who have been in the program for 2 - 3 now and in the past and we expect they are going to become a good offensive player by next year.

Blake really struggled with our defensive style and was not happy that Jaz was going to start over him to begin the year. The crappy thing is that had it not been TJ’s first year, I’m sure TJ would’ve tried harder to make it work and Blake would’ve also trusted the system more. At the time, TJ was trying to get guys to buy into something that had yet to be proven.

A few things.. Tamin is not a bad offensive player, he’s just limited. He was probably a top 5 finishing guard in the Big 12 as a freshman. He also is a tremendous passer and his basketball IQ is off the charts.

Why I think he’ll be a better offensive player next year is because he actually has a lot of tools in his tool bag that he has shown throughout his young career in AAU and high school. Being a freshman, it’s not surprising that he didn’t trust aspects of his game. He does, however have a good floater and a good mid range game. When he was dominating HS basketball last year, he wasn’t just shooting layups. We’re not talking about a guy who saw limited minutes, we’re talking about a freshman all big 12 PG who started for a team that was consistently ranked in the toughest conference in America.

I think a lot of us have forgotten that guys develop in different ways and at Iowa State we’ve been blessed with having young talent but that young talent has usually left early, denying us the ability to see their games flourish.

- Lipsey and Williams take all of the PG minutes with Williams taking 10-12 minutes at the off-ball when we need two PG's.
- If BRE were to return, I PRAY NOT.. I wonder who leaves or who's minutes get cut.
- We need a big off season from Tre King, Watson, Williams and Lipsey in the shooting department
- Kayden Fish looks like the ideal candidate for a redshirt, I think in the current system that every team should take 1-2 of these guys

Not sure how you can keep a guy who gets told what the expectations are at the start of the year and he refuses to want to do them when you're establishing a culture

Agreed but there are those that were convinced he was the answer like they were the ones at practice etc.
