If you have a problem with the coaching that is happening at your kids practice then find another league. You already have people telling you that's not their experience at their youth leagues. Or maybe volunteer to coach. Seems most of these youth leagues are always looking for people to help out. I've only had one child participate briefly in youth basketball, but I can tell you those kids didn't spend any time at practice learning celebrations.
I will be. These things aren't exceedingly rare, and the game across the board is trending more and more this way. Good or bad, I'm indifferent, I just know how I'm going to raise my son to conduct himself in sports.

I feel like you haven't really spent much time around 6-8 year olds. Let alone actually coached any of them.

I watched 8 year olds trying to set screens and it looked like if you gave a monkey a loaded gun.
If you can griddy you can pass;
if you can floss you can screen.

Sounds like you need to get a whistle and get out there and create a super team of passers and screeners.

I've been involved with my kid as a coach in youth sports since the age of 5... She is now 8. I have never seen 1 kid Griddy or 1 kid floss. **** I have seen more kids actually floss their ******* teeth (1) than do the dance.

Sorry I lied they danced after they got second place in a tournament... is that acceptable behavior?

I mean, the fact that someone decided to post that video and say they are acting different kind of implies it isn't that common, but if you say it is I'll take your word for it. They are just mimicing what you see college and pro athletes do. Can't imagine it takes a whole lot of their practice time to learn how to flex or shoot the bow after hitting a shot. Video actually made me laugh, but based on the comments it obviously bothered a lot of people. Good for you on stepping up and coaching!

***Last post on the topic. Excited for Omaha. No problem with anything he did. Youth sports are a racket. When it comes to kids learning a game; Fundamentals > Fortnite***

Just hypothetical: visiting team is up 10 in OT after getting 3-4 very questionable calls in their favor in last minute of regulation to even send the game to OT. Visiting player gets the ball and runs uncontested into front court and dunks the ball with one second left (to win by 12 instead of 10). Faux Pas or perfectly fine?

When a team has the game out of reach, the shot clock is off, and the other team isn't pressing or pressuring the ball it is bad form to take a shot especially a dunk in the last seconds. That's my opinion. Curt is right, it isn't a rule, but it shows a lack of sportsmanship. I don't think there is any sort of expectation for a team to absorb a shot clock violation either though. If the shot clock is running, play your game.

First, I'm calmer than you are.gif

Second, is it wrong that I think in the hierarchy of needs learning fundamentals is more important than learning the celebrations?

Is the coach teaching the dances? If he is I’d get him on another team.

Is second place winning? That will answer your question.

It's going to be great when the kid with the headband that is 6 inches taller and 50 pounds heavier than everyone else stops growing and is getting posterized by all of the kids he has been talking smack to.

You think Iowa fans don't like Omaha Biliew because he's black? That's what you're going with?
That's not what they said, just that they're all "concerned/worried" about his ability to be eligible because of it. Same with all the thug comments back early in Fred's tenure.

People have biases, known or unknown to themselves, that paint how they see the world. And unfortunately you see that with speculation about a guy like Biliew's future eligibility compared someone like Momcilovic.

#7 and #1, Thunder and Lightning
The best was when the little kid was trying to celebrate with the big kid and get him to flex with him and the big kid kind of just ignored him. Reminded me of the old Spike and Chester cartoons.

I'm barely in my late-20's but this **** is annoying.

Granted, these kids will get it back in spades when the big one caps out at 5'11. It is what it is, we just see more of it now due to social media.

My real old-man/get-off-my-lawn take about youth basketball is that Steph Curry, through no fault of his own, has done a ton of damage to the game at that level and beyond. Kids know they can't or won't be able to dunk like LeBron, but they don't realize that they also can't shoot like Steph, who is just as much of an athletic outlier with his otherworldly touch and feel. And especially so without exceptionally good shooting mechanics that you will have a much harder time developing if you're trying to shoot threes in 3rd grade and have to shoot from your hip to get it there.

What are we even arguing about here?? Lol this was a huge rivalry game between two of the best teams in the state and some are complaining about smack talking and showboating? It’s not even a generational thing bc the best **** talkers of all time reside in the 80’s and 90’s era.

Some of the best to ever play this game talked **** but there lies the key factor, you have to be good. You cannot be bad and run your mouth. I mean ISU was chirping all game long against Texas last week and our guys were running around flashing horns down to our crowd.. It’s part of sports and will always be.

Omaha is one of the best players in the country. He can act like he’s better than everyone because he is. If the first thing you do after seeing an eastbay dunk is cry about sportsmanship, maybe take up watching golf lol.
