. Why it is rare for players that are older to get drafted is that most of the players declare for the draft when they are younger. So just be elimination there are only going to be a few NBA type players that stick around in college for an extra year or two that are NBA players. It has nothing to do with "aging out". They are just not good enough.
If for example, all the projected NBA draft picks for this coming year and the next 4 years decided that they were just going to stay in college for their complete eligibility they wouldn't "age out" they would still be top draft picks. It is just that now they all go early. Also, I don't recall seeing a 23 or 24 year old player in the draft
DeAndre Kane did not get drafted because of his age. He was a better player than Marcus Smart that year. Age is 100% a factor in the draft. Kris Murray will be in his Age 23 season next year when he's drafted.

Chris Duarte in 2021, was 24. Actually a late lottery pick too at #13. Kind of a weird, golden goose so to speak, and the only one case of a 23/24 year old in the draft, especially taken that high, that I can recall.

Mutumbo was 25 but those are unicorns. GM's and NBA teams look at the players as an investment and are biased towards selecting younger players. The data proves that.

They never really recovered after that *** kicking they received from Iowa in Miami

They still had some good seasons after that and were about on par with anything surrounding 2009.

They've never really been that good in football and have been spotty in basketball since the 1980s/90s with exception of their title game run in '03-04 but even that season they lost 9 games.

I forgot about their 2014 season in football. I blacked most of that season out as we were in the middle of the Rhoads purgatory.

DeAndre Kane didn't get drafted because his game was largely based on how much stronger he was at 24 than the 18-20 year olds he was going against. Teams didn't not draft him because he was 24 it was because they didnt think his game would translate to an NBA level when going against other grown men.

Hence why age matters.

His age wasn’t the reason he didn’t get drafted.

If DeAndre Kane puts up that season as a 19 year old, 6'5" 200 lb point guard, he 100% is getting drafted.
I think you're both right. NBA GM'S love themselves some theoretical potential. If you're a raw 7ft center that averaged 5 points and 4 rebounds and showed flashes you can go early versus as a Jr or senior you will not. If you're a productive upperclassmen the doors not shut if they think your game translates. Lillard played all 4 years at Weber State and was still a high pick. Age isn't a disqualifier even for a high pick but you're giving a lot (too much imo) of benefit of the doubt the younger you're

He played all 4 years and was drafted his age 22 season. Typically 22 is about the upper max you'll see drafted. Of course, there are unicorns, but GM's love drafting young guys.
