Is your trust in CMC lost to fix this offense in 2023 and beyond?

I'm not sure if trust is the correct term for me.
Do I trust CMC to make the changes...... maybe.

Do I think he has earned the opportunity to make the changes? Absolutely.
This for me is where JP may need to take a bit more hands on approach (maybe he already is) and see if they can make a better plan to address this O. If CMC refuses to go to that level, then we have some other issues that I do trust in JP to work out how he feels is best for ISU.

I often wonder if we got too greedy when CDMc was shown the door. CMC can truly prove what he is made of by getting us back up towards the top end of the conference. I think he has more than earned the opportunity to try.

As disappointing as the season has been, we have been close in every game. As much as the blame falls on coaching, it equally falls on player execution. Five turnovers is hard to overcome against a solid team like Okie State.

I know I'm being pedantic about that comment. No we have not been blown out either but seriously, what quality team has this squad actually beaten? Its ok to skip the sugar frosting in some of these comments. He doesn't need to throw coaches and players under the bus but it'd be nice if he would just call it like it is from time to time.

I agree, special teams has improved quite a bit over the season after a horrible start. My issue there though is not with the kickers as I think both have shown to be capable but how many P5 schools don't have a special teams coach on staff? Back to the "win in the margins" Campbell preaches, well special teams is definately an area we have lost within the margins over the years with some just boneheaded mistakes like not fair catching a ball or getting the hell out of the way when you can't cleanly catch it or in coverage when we hit a guy that called fair catch. The blocked punts is all about protection and timing/footwork to get the punt off cleanly. All that stuff are things that should never happen if they were properly coached and executed.

I think that the whole special teams coach thing makes for an easy target. It looks from the outside that since there's no one official assistant in charge of special teams, that they don't care about it. The thing is, who is out there that is an expert at not only kicking and punting, but also protection, returns and coverage? That isn't a former Kicker. On top of that, if you hire an official ST coordinator, he's going to be one of the 10 guys on the road recruiting, so he better be able to recruit. And, he better be able to connect with position players, because recruiting only kickers and punters would be kind of a waste for a recruiter.

I'm fine with parsing it out and having an analyst that can help with kicking and punting technique. McCarney had his assistants in charge of a specific special teams unit and that worked fine. Now, saying I'm fine with the overall strategy doesn't mean that I'm fine with the results. They definitely need work...although I feel like they've improved quite a bit over the season. Our punt protection has gotten better but they still need to get punts off quicker. PR is a mess and I have my doubts that Noel is the guy for the job. Coverage has been fine. I think that our biggest complaints right now are that our FR K is inconsistent and our FR P is slow getting the ball out. To me, that's what you get for starting two guys right out of HS. You fix that by not having those two positions in the same recruiting class. And then maybe focus a little more on getting a few guys that can help in the return game.

Special Teams is fairly far down the list of issues this year to me. At least behind OL, WR, TE, RB and overall offensive scheme.

When has Campbell said anything other than "coach speak" during the season. He's not alone in this practice among coaches. Or even in the minority. Some of the best coaches are renowned for their "coach speak".

I think the closeness of our games is important. It means Cyclone football isn't broken, we just need to fix a couple wobbly wheels. And I think Campbell can get the job done.

Not going to lie, I was very underwhelmed by his response. All coach speak. The only possible thing is maybe he knows staff changes are needed at the end of the season but doesn’t even want to hint at them until the season is over.

What exactly do you expect him to say? He blames himself.

Not a plus to lose recruits, but a true freshman OL wasn't going to make a difference in our 2023 OL.

If guys like Miller, Simmons, Remsburg and Hufford can't get it done. Then Treiner, Sauser, Bonifas, Maro, Deyo, Rengert, Smith, Paul's, Neal, Petersen, Akinshilo or Hasert need to step up. I guess we'll find out how good our OL recruiting has been.

They just lost an O-line recruit, and I am don't think it was he got a better NIL deal.

Will see what happens with the staff, but given how long it took him to address the special teams, I am not confident any major changes will be forthcoming

Sure feels like the “success” our offense has had is directly due to the talent we’ve had at RB, TE, WR, and QB, with at least 1 of each currently on NFL rosters for the first time ever.

CampbellBall is about the philosophy of keep it close 1st half, make adjustments at halftime, and then hope they work.

Easy to pad stats and points when your down.

Other teams have figured out ISU will make errors that keep them from winning.

3 and 10 in our conference games since OSU last year is the stat that worries me most.

Feels like the coaching staff decided to drive for 500 miles on a flat tire, rather than spending the 30 minutes to pull over and put on a spare. Fans got to watch the damage in real time, and we probably won't know how bad the full extent is for a while.
