Game over officially. **** the refs and **** Tom Manning.
I get it but you know ultimately Campbell signs off on the game plan. I'm no fan of Tom Manning but this is how Campbell wants to play, he wants to control the ball, not be super aggressive, run the ball and play solid defense and high light short passes that serve as an extension of the run game.

It's a recipe that has worked out very well for Iowa State for the most part. A recipe for us that has worked, really, really well.

But this idea that Manning is the one holding us back - Manning makes plenty of play calls that I hate. But overall he calls the game that Campbell wants to play - tight. If Campbell wanted the offense to play with tempo and play faster than guess what, it would because all he'd have to do is tell Manning to hurry the F up.

I think Manning is predictable - and he doesn't have a great feel for the flow of the game . But I think we're kidding ourselves if another OC comes in and we start seeing deep shot after deep shot.

----

you see this with Coaches. Jimbo at A&M, Wilcox at Cal, Kliemann (Spelling) at K-State - a while back it was even Saban at Alabama was fairly conservative on offense.

-----------------

I'd be more than happy if Manning were gone, don't get me wrong. But the reality is that we play games the Way CMC wants us to play on offense. Could Manning call better plays in that construct? Yes, yes he could. But I doubt we're ever going to look like Baylor's offense because we haven't a consistent downfield passing attack since what, Hakeem?

I trust CMC more than any other football coach in my lifetime at ISU. But the fact is, this might not be the way Tom Manning wants to play offense. But I can guarantee its the way CMC wants to play offense or else Manning wouldn't be here anymore. The vision is for us to be Wisconsin / Iowa like even if we're more spread out than those teams. The short passes are an extension of the run and we want to be just a methodical as handing the ball off and gaining 3-4 yards a play.

So many teachable moments in this game. What did one of the anonymous coaches say before the season started? Something about Iowa State being softer than in previous years.
