I only went to O’Malleys 1 or 2 times. While I miss Battles it was less than a bbq joint and more of a smoked meat spot. George’s I still get in Nevada.
I’d probably vote Taco Time due to how often I went there and it being incredibly hard to replicate the crisp meat.
Honorable mention Vesuvius. Ames pizza is trash but this place was pretty decent.
Closest Taco Time is north of Chicago.
They are all over the northwest, but I've never thought it was as good as it was back I the day.
The old Battle’s George started. I love Emmit, but he was not George.Battles
LOVED crisp meat burritos. I remember a time when somebody was driving from Waukee to Minneapolis and stopped in and got a bunch. Must have been bad because they had to stop and **** so bad in the ditch alongside the interstate.Closest Taco Time is north of Chicago.

The Mandarin is the one that comes to mind for me. That was the exotic dinner for date nights.Did The Mandarin Chinese restaurant on Lincoln close down? Their Mandarin chicken was the best.
I have thought about Happy Joe's a lot but I don't think I would want it if Hank wasn't running it. I guess I feel the same way about Battles. I think I went there only once after George passed. It just wasn't the same. The Mandarin is the one that comes to mind for me. That was the exotic dinner for date nights.
Also, Happy Joe's.
Hank Aaron?I have thought about Happy Joe's a lot but I don't think I would want it if Hank wasn't running it. I guess I feel the same way about Battles. I think I went there only once after George passed. It just wasn't the same.
Good for Hank, though. He was able to partially retire and do something he really loved for a while before he had to totally retire.
Pizza: DaVinci's
Deli/Subs: Mr. Goodcents
Having those two places so close to each other in Campustown and only two blocks from me was the best.
Also, who's old enough to remember the McDonald's on Welch just south of Welch Ave Station and you could get 'Cyclone Fries' for like $5 and it was just a bag completely full of their french fries.
Hank owned that Happy Joe's franchise. Very visible guy. I think he had ISU plates that tied into it.Hank Aaron?
West Cyde. What was the wing place behind Wallaby's? They had some massive wings they were usually pretty good...the service was so ******* bad. The last time I went in was the last time because I was the only person dining in the restaurant and it was made very clear that it was an annoyance there was someone eating in the restaurant.
Is the keg shop still open? Bought plenty of meals from them, even gave a few back.
His son is on here with the user name "Happy Joe". It was somewhat surreal to work for Hank and watch his son go from the little guy who was running around some Saturday mornings while we were getting the place ready to open to a guy who was an injury away from being a two sport contributor for the Cyclones.Hank owned that Happy Joe's franchise.
