Anybody been to all inclusive resort in mexico? Need help

My finance and I went to a travel agent today and we decided to go to Mexico for our honeymoon. We got some good deals down there. We were looking at 4 or 5 nights there. The area were looking at is 40 miles south of Cancun. They are all All Inclusive resorts. These prices reflect 4 night stays

I was wandering if anybody been to any of these. Any info will help us decide which one to stay at

Dreams Puerto aventuras resort and spa, around $1700

Dreams Tulum, around $1900

occidental Grand Xcaret, around $1950

The Royal Playa del carmen, around $2199

Just wandering what people thought about these

Haven't been to any of those specific ones, spent my honeymoon at the Aventura Spa Palace in Playa del Carmen. Which is close, so I have the following tips to offer.

1. Make sure it is adult only. We went to a resort at Xcaret for a day to snorkel, there were kids everywhere and it was much noisier and less relaxing than where we were.

2. Don't plan on doing too many of the day trips. We went on a couple, but more because we felt we needed to. We had the most fun just hanging out at our resort. We went to the Tulum ruins one day, which was fun, and snorkeling another.

Thats about all I got. It was nice down there, and we say often that we want to go back.

About 5 years ago we stayed halfway inbetween Cancun and Tulum for 1200 a person for 6 days. We went through Apple vacations. If it has plenty of beach room and more than one pool. itll be nice.

The Ruins were great, and a day trip to Playa was nice, but id stay away at night. A lot of "lurkers" eyein ya the whole time.

stayed at the Barcelo Palace resort in Riviera Maya just south of Playa. 5 Star resort. The beach, food and service was outstanding. they also had great shows at the resort in the evening.

My wife and I honeymooned at El Dorado Royale in Tulum. Definitely go with an adult-only resort, and stay for as long as you can. It's nice to have several days to take advantage of the all-inclusive resort and relax, but it's nice to have several days to get out and sightsee. We stayed for a week, and it wasn't long enough!

We spent our Honeymoon there. Absolutely fantastic place. I agree with the two tips above.

The Royal Playa del Carmen is about a 1/2 block from 5th st/ave. It the long strip of restraunts shops and everything. The beach at the royal is nice but not that big and that area is a rocky in areas. But its a really nice place...we stayed at the sister hotel across the street for a bit less Gran Porto Real, most of the rooms at both hotels are facing the street and it is a public street so I highly suggest not getting a ground floor room.

Iberostar resorts down there are really nice and really big, nice big beaches.

This is where we stayed. The buffet was ok, but the specialty restaurants were phenomenal. Nightly entertainment(which was very good as well) and a night club. 3 or so pools.

Just got back from Playa and we stayed at Rio playacar. It was nice. All inclusive but we got tired of eating all inclusive buffet style rather quickly. I'm not real a very big buffet fan anyway. Be sure to eat at Karens on 5 th ave. So good we at there twice and the service was outstanding. And rememeber, don't drink the water:>

We spent our honeymoon at El Dorado Seaside Suites. It was a smaller adults only all inclusive. The really nice thing compared to other all inclusive resorts was every evening meal was in a restaurant. They had like six on the resort and since it is smaller they don't have the buffet for the evening. The beach was a little rocky but we had a swim up suite so didn't spend much time at the beach anyway. I had a friend that looked into Dreams Tulum and was pretty impressed by it. They were supposed to stay there but the travel agency screwed up the reservation so they went to El Dorado SS and the agency picked up the difference. Wherever you decide on, relax and enjoy your time there :biggrin: (It's not quite the same when you get back home :sad

Or eat the ice, regardless of what Sammy says. I found that one out the hard way.

You won't be disappointed in any the options you have to chose from.

We stayed at an AIC in Akumal. Had a great time as they have the best snorkeling. It is a favorite place for italians and frenchies, which was good and bad. The good was a lot of hot women that only where thongs and no top. The bad is men that wear thongs and no tops. If you have sun glasses that your fiance can't see where you are looking, you will have a great time.

We just spent a week over New Years at the Royal in Cancun which is the same company as the Royal in Playa. We absolutely loved it. Our first time at an all inclusive and it was great. The food was very good, like six different restaurants and only one was a buffet. Hot tub in the room was fun(even tho we've been married 22 years HA). Tip them good and they will really take care of you. Tip the bartenders and ask for the good stuff if you're into the fine Tequillas or liquors, the restaurants especially had some fine tequilla if you ask for it. The food was so good my wife kept taking pictures of the plates before we could eat! Above posts were right about not planning too many tours, cuz you won't want to leave the resort too much. You can always sign up for tours when you get there. We only took one day trip to Cozumel to snorkel and shop. I'd recommend that its just a ferry ride from Playa. Everyone at the resort will know English well so you don't have to worry about that. We drank the water and consumed alot of ice(margaritas) with no problem.

I have been to Playa del Carmen several times and know the area quite well. Here are some things for your consideration.

The Riviera Maya area that you are going to honeymoon can be somewhat spread out.
Dreams Tulum is about 25 miles south of Playa and closer to Tulum. I haven't stayed there but the resort is a little more remote.
Occidental Grand Xcaret is south of Playa about 5 miles or so. They are near the eco-park called Xcaret. They have a beach area but it is not really like the ocean as you would consider it.
Dreams Puerto Aventuras is near the town of Puerto Aventuras which is where there is a nice marina and some small shops and restaurants. The location of Puerto Aventuras is about 10 miles or so south of Playa del Carmen.
The Royal is actually in the town of Playa del Carmen. On the beach just north of Constituyentes Avenue and just steps away from Fifth Avenue, which is a really neat cobblestone street closed to traffic and lined with shops, restaurants, and bars. The Royal is an upscale all-inclusive which is part of the REAL resort chain. The Gran Porto Real is bit cheaper version of the Real chain and still really nice. One kind of cool thing about the Royal is that they have these really big beds that are on the beach.

If it were me, I would probably spend the money for the Royal. I know it is really nice. The location is really cool. It is upscale and will be a truly great resort for the honeymoon. You have Fifth Avenue and the town of Playa del Carmen at your backdoor and won't even have to take a taxi to get there. If you tire of the All-inclusive food and atmosphere, you will have a lot of options. The Cozumel ferry in Playa del Carmen is within walking distance should you decide to go there. And honestly, the four days will pass very quickly.

Some good websites to get a good idea of the location of these resorts would be Riviera Maya Hotels, Resorts, Rentals: Mexican Caribbean Vacation This website has very good aerial views of the entire Riviera Maya area. Tripadvisor will give you reviews on the various hotels that you listed and there are forums where people might answer your questions.
