Hoping he can play D and be a bulldog on the court. I watched a few St Bonnie games this year; they were a good team.

Do we know much about him as a ball-handler? We really struggled last year against pressure when anyone but Hunter was bringing it up. I worry that's going to be a major weakness this year.

I'm OK with this signing, but was really hoping TJ would sign players a bit more lengthy. If he's physical, great, but physicality alone isn't enough all the time. Caleb Grill mentioned in the recent Corner 3 pod, that as physical as they were this past season, they wanted nothing to do with Texas Tech, and simply couldn't match their size and strength. I'm not sure much has been done to remedy that this offseason. The backcourt is a little bigger with the subtraction of Hunter and addition of Williams, but it is still gonna be a backcourt of mostly 6'4" and under guys with average wingspan. Just waiting to get smothered by TTU again, who is essentially reloading with big, physical dudes. I absolutely want AJ Green with one of our remaining scholarships, but he doesn't help in that area either.

Last yr at this time there were 100s of posts how the team will only win 5 games blah, blah, blah. If TJ's good with it I am also. He has already shown he knows more about coaching and recruiting than 99.9999999999999999999999% of this board.
Lmao. How much money are you willing to wager they’re better? 10k?

Is TJ good with it? Coaches balance risk of getting worse, when they get what they can. That’s never meant they think it’s good enough to improve on the year before. And it’s never been more true in the NIL era.

Last year we were 7-11 and a shot away from not making the tournament with a top-5 defense. Not ideal. TJ wasn’t “good” with a top-170 offense, just as he wasn’t “good” with his UNLV years.

Way up there
Ward is essentially an one for one replacement of Conditt. He will play the same position and is a similar size, with similar skill set.
He's 20lbs lighter than George, pretty sure it was posted his wingspan is like 7'2 or something. That's not like George at all. He will actually be able to play the 4. Idk that he helps us against Tech but he's nothing like Conditt.

Helluva improvement. What were you expecting last year after being winless in Conference the previous year?

This guy?

I get it on wanting size and length like Tech, but we had to get some guys who could get buckets...going 5 out and hoping IZB would hit fadeways at the end of the shot clock or Gabe shooting an off balance 3, not ideal

Even Hunter was not great at it.
Hunter got a bit better as the year went on but I completely agree. You could combine him and Brockington's left hand and say ISU had combined maybe one strong ball handler for most of the season.

Hoping Williams can be good there, Holmes could be too. Handling the ball against pressure and being able to just function offensively against pressure was just as much of a problem as shooting last year IMO.

Nothing like Conditt? Kunc is nothing like Conditt. Ward is rather similar. An apt comparison, although not exactly the same.

More importantly their roles won’t be too different, particularly if we don’t land Basile. It’s more of the same, hopefully just slightly better. We don’t really have a 5 that would result with him playing the 4 much, at least on our accord.

Tech is/was a special kind of physicality that a handful of teams would have been OK with, and if that means a couple of losses or tough, tough games in an otherwise NCAA tourneyish season, so be it.

Even that was in question at times.
