Although it's arguably gotten better in recent years. This is a reminder of how top heavy women's basketball is. A very good team having a very good year can get bombed regularly by one of the elites.
Hope they finish strong and make a 16 run at least. Hopefully better matchups til then.

This may not be a popular take but I thought the game was pretty fairly officiated and Ashley benefited from several iffy foul calls in the post on Baylor. They did a nice job playing her straight up and there were many occasions she seemed to be the one initiating the contacting.

The only egregious one I can think of was that girl tripping and falling and they called it on Ashley. But otherwise I thought the officiating was pretty fair.
Yeah there were some iffy calls against us for sure but also against them. It didn't seem egregious either way.

Different playing styles for sure. This would’ve been our 3rd year in a row beating Baylor…hopefully a 3rd chance in KC to make that happen.

Pretty much every one of Ashley's 3s were short because she had less separation on her step-back and had to put more arch to get it over Baylor's defenders.
Exactly. Without looking, I would bet that the Baylor players had 2-3" on the ISU players across the board. With at least equal quickness and better strength. That's not a good recipe.

I think our guards were actually a little taller - but the length of their posts and their guards physicality were able to cut off any advantage we had there. But agree we gave up a lot of size on the interior.

Before the game, the Baylor starters came out and went up to the two female officials and chatted with them, never seen that one before.

Nylissa Smith flipped off our student section, Bickle flopped twice, nothing called. Andrews was told twice by Eric Brewton to tuck in her jersey, nothing done. Felicia Grinther hates Bill and it is no secret, and as soon as I saw we had her, Eric Brewton, and Lisa Jones I knew it was going to be a long night. Baylor has been catered to by officials in the Big12 for years and when they get to the NCAA tourney and it doesn't happen, they don't know what to do.

Talk about a classless bunch - win with class, shake hands and get off the court. Instead, you have Queen Egbo crowing at the crowd, and Nikki Collen doing the same with a couple of her assistants.

Do you know if there are any pics of Smith flipping off the student section??

Add an athletic 4 to this team and Ashley becomes even more dominant. BF doesn't want to play that way, but with the 6'3 top 50 recruit coming in 2023 he may have solved the issue. She'll match up better at the four to top teams.

The two non-calls that really bothered me were when Smith would put two hands in our players back and create separation to get a rebound. The second, which is by far my biggest pet peeve no matter what game, is the moving screen. You cannot screen a player and then roll to the basket to prevent the player from moving. 51 did that all night.
I am not naive, we lost the game with missed shots, sloppy passes and not playing our game. When the ball keeps moving, we do better.

If Ashley doesn’t return, I wonder if Bill will change his offense. I don’t see anyone returning that can keep trying to score down low while getting hammered every time and no fouls called
I would like to see CBF walk across the hall at Sukup and ask TJ about his pass first offense. The ball moves lightning fast and on many possessions it rarely touches the floor. All 5 players involved. Not just one or two. Just a thought.

Maybe while he's over there he can drop off a couple inbounds plays for the boys

The Baylor bigs do a really good job staying vertical and not reaching over but you can't allow them to use their lower body that much. Just because you are straight up doesn't mean you can bump the ball handler back, that's a foul ten times out of ten.

There is no parity in women's hoops, there's a reason the tournament is pretty chalky every year.

Iowa State needs a true 5, not a hybrid 4. Bills guard heavy lineup would be lethal with a true post player.

Your really asking the womens team to ask the mens team for offense advise? Have you watched either team this season?

Talking about ball movement and including all five in the offense. That is all.

And yes, I have either watched or attended EVERY SINGLE GAME of both teams (except those on that blasted Longhorn Network!!) EVERY SINGLE GAME.
