A couple of guys I’ve heard less about in this recruiting class than others: what’s to know about these guys?

There’s a few recruits in this class I haven’t seen us discuss as much as others. I’d like to hear more about what to know and what to expect from a few of these guys:

Ikenna Ezeogu
Jason Essex
Jeremiah Cooper
Gabe Burkle

The trend with these guys is that they have guys in our class at the same position they may lost behind in the discussion. (Gaines with Essex, Mason Thomas with Ikenna)

These are all very good recruits though. In past years, they would’ve been our elite players in our class, now they’re in the middle of the pack. It’s exciting that we’re seeing this trend, shows the depth of this class.

On3 had Ezeogu as like a top 300 player at one time if I remember right?

Burkle is a stud. Grew up an Iowa fan and they offered and he still chose Iowa State

Ikenna has a very high ceiling

Ezeogu is one of the recruits I’m most excited about.

His potential is off the charts.
He’s 6’6 right? Haven’t had that size at the position since David Irving. Could be an animal.

Gabe Burkle seems like a bit of a developmental Tight End. I believe some other schools wanted to move him to OL. Not super fast or quick but has some hands. Your big and strong style TE. More of a Soehner type potentially. The kid plays the post on his high school basketball team. Can get up and dunk it no problem.

Some of those falling that you don’t hear much about turn out to be great Montgomery, Anthony Johnson, Kolar, and Noel to name a few.

Most of our recruits were at that same level of recruit rankings back then too. Montgomery was a .83 at the time, which would be one of our lowest rankings in this class now. Back then, that was a pretty average rating of recruit for us. Campbell did a hell of a job finding guys like him in that group.

It’s awesome because back then, most of our lower end of the class (think those high 2 star guys) were a compete crapshoot. Very unlikely to get anything out most of those guys. When you recruit at that level, you’re basically competing with the likes of MAC conference teams.

Now even our lowest recruits are at a level where they still have a solid chance of potential.

ESPN has Essex rated as a 4-star. I always thought that of the 3 WRs, Essex appeared to my untrained eye to be the most college ready. He already has the body to compete at the Big 12 level. I've heard others say he's not as polished as Gaines, but I liked Essex's video as much or more than Gaines', but I'm not an expert. All I know is that when three schools that always seem to have stellar WRs (Arkansas, Baylor and Oklahoma State) want you, there's gotta be something to it. And he's not slow, which is one of the knocks I've see against him. According to his Hudl profile, he runs a 4.56 40, which is plenty fast enough for a WR. Isn't that what Lazard ran?

Love to see the farm boys come play for Iowa's ag school, ISU. EIU is a fine school too, but it is more like an Illini satellite campus.

From what I have seen of Essex, he seems like a guy that can do something once it is in his hands. Big physical receiver with good start/stop and power to play through contact. I don't know if he will have the catch radius that Gaines will have, but his physical tools are still impressive. Appears to be a good blocker as well.

If the Year 4 video on the link below is any indication, Jeremiah Cooper is a pick 6 waiting to happen. Good ball skills, played some offense too. Probably has some room to get bigger, but fluid, rangy athlete that has some pop, it appears. 9 picks in 10 games his senior year is kinda crazy. Recovered a fumble as well to make it a clean 1 turnover per game average. Another kid that is easy to get excited about.

Another one not in the OP is Quaron Adams. Townsend got most of the attention up until his decomittment and he is probably more college ready, but Adams is going to be a really fun player once he adjusts to the college game. You can't teach that kind of speed.

That video is insane. I don't know what competition level he's playing against, but it looks like absolute cheat code. I'm suddenly very excited for Cooper to be at ISU.
