Really worried about QB position. Hopefully Purdy graduating doesn’t send us back to the cellar. The man throws dimes and his pump fake ability is next level. Eisworth, Kolar, Rose, Hall, McDonald, and Enyi leaving will also be huge gut punches.

QB is obviously a fickle position, but Hunter Dekkers is about as well positioned to succeed as any QB at ISU in decades. He's had years to mature behind Purdy including significant snaps in real games. He also has the size and physical tools to succeed (both arm strength and running ability). I don't expect him to match Purdy's production immediately, but I would be shocked if he ends up as a huge disappointment.

Halfway through the season. Why not?
BOLD = True Freshman

QB - Hunter Dekkers, Aidan Bouman OR Rocco Becht
RB - Jirehl Brock OR Deon Silas OR Eli Sanders (Will be decided in camp)
WRX - Daniel Jackson, Darien Porter OR Greg Gaines
WRM - Jaylin Noel, Aidan Bitter OR Quaron Adams
WRZ - Sean Shaw, Ezeriah Anderson
TE - Easton Dean, DeShawn Hanika OR Tyler Moore OR Andrew Keller
F - Gabe Burkle OR Jared Rus
LT- Jarrod Hufford, Tyler Miller
LG- Trevor Downing, Hayden Pauls
C- Joey Ramos,
RG- Darrell Simmons, Deylin Hasert
RT- Jake Remsburg, Grant Treiber

DE - Corey Suttle, Johnny Wilson
DE - Blake Petersen, Jayden Gray OR R Mason Thomas
DT - JR Singleton, Isaiah Lee OR Tyler Onyedim
LB - Aric Horne, Carston Marshall
LB - Gerry Vaughn, Cole Pedersen
LB - Dae'Shawn Davis, Hunter Zenzen OR Jacob Imming
CB - Myles Purchase, Michal Antoine OR DJ Miller
CB - TJ Tampa, Tayvonn Kyle
S - Craig McDonald, Malik Verdon
Star* - Beau Freyler, Mason Chambers *Isheem Young may come back
S - Kym-mani King, Jordyn Morgan OR Jeremiah Cooper

I think that you are pretty close here. A couple of thoughts:

QB - Dekkers is the man here. They're going to have to hope that Bouman doesn't jump in the portal or they'll need to find a transfer.
RB - This will be an interesting fall camp battle. I would guess that they'll be rotating guys quite a bit the first few games.
WR - Just my opinion, but I think that Gaines starts right away at X. Noel at M, Shaw at Z. I do think that Scates will have a say at X.
TE - Dean at TE, Rus at F.
OL - I think you have it about right. I'm not so sure Hasert makes an appearance so early though. There are other guys that have been in the system longer that will be in that spot.
DE - Biggest hole on the team IMO. We REALLY need Zach Peterson to come back. Suttle and Blake Peterson had a lot of hype, but neither have done much yet. I think that R Mason Thomas plays right away as a pass rush specialist.
LB - They've been grooming Vaughn, Horne and Davis for 2 years now. If anyone can beat them out, that's great news.
CB - Seems like Tampa and Purchase are locks to start. I'd have backups as Antoine and Noble Thomas. I expect Kyle to enter the portal.
S - To me, King, McDonald and Freyler are locks at this point. If they have someone better, that's even better news, as those three are good.

For sure.

I think you can take the "OR" out from between Brock and Silas / Sanders. People are going to be surprised at how little drop off there will be from Hall to Brock next year.
I'm excited to see what Brock can do as the primary back. I think he's certainly capable of carrying the load. Add Silas and Sanders to the mix and that's a respectable stable of backs.

Maybe. No team is guaranteed success as evidenced by Clemson and LSU's struggles this year.

We lose some nice players, but there looks to be a lot of quality players coming back and Campbell has been getting those guys snaps this year.

Dekker's isn't going to replace Purdy. He appears to be a different type of QB. Maybe we see Dekkers keep more RPO's. Connect on more deep passes. Not counting on Purdy's accuracy in 2022, but more big plays.

Is Will McDonalds going be gone or returning? If he’s going to be drafted, he needs to go. The more we supply players to the NFL, the better.

True, but he also does not have Drew Brees' arm. And I love Brock!

Drew Brees never had a strong arm either.

What made Brees was his vision, quick release, and accuracy. People want to talk about Mahomes' arm (he certainly has one), but his vision (ability to see the field) and accuracy are what's made him a star. I

Brock lacks vision, anticipation, and consistent accuracy (especially on the deep ball). His arm is a "problem". It's not not close to being his biggest.

Yeah I think Purdy has high potential, but nfl doesn’t like QBs with questionable decision and ball handling. I could see a lot of super seniors as well but can’t count on it either
I don’t see Purdy as high potential, but I am curious to see Purdy in a new system in the NFL. I think he could be serviceable backup QB. I feel like our system with the talent we’ve had the last few years (solid to great tight ends, less solid receivers) has required a lot of timing and precision. Even throwing to Charlie, you’re throwing into a tight window. Compared to an Alabama QB who’s throwing to wide open receivers and not facing as much pressure up front, Purdy has been through the ringer and might be more prepared for the next level than outsiders expect. And he has played a LOT of football, which correlates well to success in the NFL.

You should show some respect to the best QB we have ever had. If it wasn’t for Brock Purdy this program would look a lot different potentially. He’s a good kid and you consistently **** on him. **** off

You had me nodding along until this line. Brock lacks vision? Get real... he has elite vision and he has elite accuracy in the short/middle range distances. I won't argue with you over deep ball accuracy, sure he could be better there. But seriously, to say he lacks vision is just not reality.

Not sure about any super seniors going forward because starting next year don't super seniors count toward the scholarship limit which I would assume we have filled out in recruiting?

This looks about right - you do good work sir.

We'll have to see if Isheem Young comes back. I'd also wonder about Trevor Downing. I think you hit the nail on the head though, Downing will likely come back and Young will go if he gets any sniffs from the NFL. I'm with others on this board who are wondering about Tayvonn Kyle - will he stick around likely being a backup?

Special teams - I bet we look hard at the transfer portal here, especially if Mevis doesn't use a Covid year (does he even have one?) Edit: No

P - Tyler Perkins (class 2022), Cameron Shook
PK and KO - Open competition between Tyler Bittman, Drake Nettles, Trent McCann and Keegan Shackford

Team identity as a whole will be interesting to say the least.

Mevis doesn't have a Covid year. He played 3 years prior to 2020.

Also kinda surprised we don't see the big defensive tackle they talked a lot about during fall as a young up and comer (Howard Brown). Especially that since his size and athleticism is kinda unique.
