Did the high expectations kill this season?

I am as frustrated as anybody and I want as all you and the team, coaches and players are definitely frustrated. But is it that the teams are better prepared because it is Iowa State, is it that we are shooting ourselves in the foot, combinations of both, we are so uptight with trying to force things that we are playing right into their hands. Would love a discussion in a more positive light instead of fire this person, get rid of that person and how we need to fix this. As of now I see this team losing to Ok State, Texas, and Oklahoma for sure with a record 7-5. Not what we expected we know but will still support this team. Again thoughts..

I just simply don’t think we are as good as we thought. Last year was fun, but we judged this team too much on a pandemic year that wasn’t even close to normal. At times last year we faced a team like KSU who was barely able to field a team with how many guys sat out. Glad we beat Oregon to cap off the year, but they were 4-2 and lost to Cal and Oregon State. Currently this team is on track for this year to play out similar to 2019.

I’m guessing I’m like others who have felt pressure just watching these games, so I can’t imagine the players. Read the game threads, they were freaking miserable (I’m one that contributed to that).

But that’s gone for me. I’m just going to watch, cheer, and enjoy the games now.

Yeah, no pressure now. Probably will only be favored against Kansas and Tech, so there won’t be a target on our back anymore.

Season isn't dead yet. This team always plays poorly in September, only to flip a switch in October and play like a completely different team. We literally had a similar conversation last year. In other words, talk to me after Columbus Day.

Still TONS to play for. Did everyone watch the Big 12 games yesterday? It’s wide open. We could still make the Big 12 title game come December.

I agree, but...

It isn't OK that "This team always plays poorly in September..."

That's a fail and it's on the coaches. Guess what? CFB is played in September.

Duh!
I am as disappointed and frustrated as any other fan. A day later, I’ve had to remind myself where this staff and these players have taken us. We’ve been to unprecedented heights with CMC’s first recruiting class, plus additions. He’s since brought in more talent.

The goal of a B12 title and/or a NYD6 bowl are still in play. The conference looks like it is wide open, so there is a lot left to play for in 2021. with the classes brought in and the state of the league; continued success seems achievable.

Were expectations too high? It appears so. However, I am not going to let that ruin the best era of ISU FB for me. Especially, when conference play has just started and there is so much more left in play: B12 title. There is no @#$&ing way I want OUUT in it.

I‘ve done my part, there isnt anything else to do. I am just going to move on to the KU and worry about what to make for tailgating. See you Saturday!

Other than Kansas and Tech every conference game is going to be a battle. Likely going to be a 2 loss team in the CCG. Piss poor punting, KO return and a bad snap (WTF were we under center) was more than we could overcome.

This is the most reasonable post I've ever read on here.

Expectaions with who we had returning from a Fiesta Bowl winning team were fair.
With the experienced, All Big 12 players we have leading this team, we had hope they would overcome the September slow starts. Just didn't happen.

I 100% agree with you. I've said that in other threads. Not showing up ready to play in week 1 means we're not ready to play in week 2 against Iowa, and it also seems to affect us the rest of the month.
