What are your volunteer activities? Any organizations we should donate our time/money to? How are you involved?

Donate, but have not volunteered yet (but I need to).

My wife and I have a soft spot for animals, so most of our donations go to the Puppy Jake Foundation, Kiya Koda (local animal shelter in Indianola) and the Animal Rescue League.

Not exactly sure.
I had jobs that required me to do basic PR all the time. You name it, a good chance I have been a member or helped with it over the years. So, currently I'm just going light. Church council, youth coach, home HS softball announcer, just gave up radio wrestling announcer, co-op nominating committee, several things around the kid's school. It's nice having time now and not have to run somewhere about 3-4x/week.

I haven't done much recently, but I did help build a Habitat for Humanity house in St. Bernard Parish one year after Hurricane Katrina...so anything to HFH is good with me.

I try to make an annual donation to AHeinz57 Pet Rescue because that's where I got one of my fur babies. I also have it set up that whenever I buy something from Amazon, a donation goes to Pet Project Midwest (an organization that helps people in need keep their pets).

We have ours set to the ASPCA. I try to promote this feature every chance I get considering how often people use Amazon. It's a great way to support causes you care about.

I am a volunteer TKD instructor at a non-profit school. Students pay, but we are cheap.

Have been helping the gf with an animal charity Critter Crusaders. They pay for medical treatment for various shelters/rescues all over Iowa. Rescues can't afford to drop a few grand on a surgery, so CC steps in. It's absolutely the lost causes that they save. What's impressive to me as a outsider is that CC has connections at Vet clinics all over Iowa, plus ISU, UW, Colo St. They know the best place to go depending on the injury, and they get great deals from different clinics and vets since it's a charity thing. They have pulled off some miracles!

Critters

Also, Angie, GREAT thread idea. Very positive and uplifting, we could all use some of that.

Youth sports coaching. I'm bad at it, but I'm amazed at how few parents actually will do it, even for kids at really young ages where specialized knowledge of the game doesn't really matter at all.

If you buy a lot of stuff from Amazon use smile.amazon.com to buy instead of amazon.com and they donate a small amount of your purchase to an organization of your choosing. We use a local shelter and they get a $500ish check quarterly from Amazon from whatever other people join us in donating to their cause..

What sport? I had a cousin years ago who started a community soccer league and needed coaches. Never played soccer in my life but I took a team. Still feel bad for those kids.

We do several monetary donations, but I do a TON in our PTA, and the local city arts council. I donate photography services to a whole slew of local charities, non-profits, and organizations (they usually use them for promotional or marketing purposes).

This is absolutely true! If you have kids and they are in a daycare or school, check out the organizations to see if they're listed. Most local pet shelters and non-profits also have them. It is a big boon to those organizations to receive money without having to figure out fundraising.

Forgot about that one- our Amazon Smile goes to AHeinz57. We have a rescue Shih Tzu from them, and I really was impressed by how they operate.

This alone should qualify someone for sainthood. Even in the lower elementary grades, some parents are huge jerks and expect their children's teams to be able to compete at the pro level. If they can't (because they're 8 or whatever), there are so many parents who aren't afraid to ***** at the coach about it.
