<sigh> :swoon:Ok Cyclone Nation, let's look on the bright side it could be much worse... We could still have Chizik..

I just have to get use to the idea of my beloved program being ran by a former Hawkeye.....

Does the chain of events make sense? If Pollard has traveled to Wisconsin, Atlanta and Indy in the past couple days and Stoops is in Tucson preparing for a bowl then how does the process work? Does Stoops leave his team to interview without anyone knowing about it? I think its Hawks stirring the pot. Just saying, doesn't make sense to me

Not that is really worth anything, but I lived in AZ for a couple years and they are a different breed down there. The support of their teams, at U of A and ASU, are extremely inconsistent. People still talk about Jake Plummer like he is still playing at ASU---its weird

Just remember how it was the 12 years before Chizik. Seriously, no coach is going to risk his reputation just to come here and **** on the Cyclones. (Oh wait, Chizik did that.) You know what I mean though. Honestly, in 2005, I bet no one, meeting Dan for the first time, would have any idea that he was once a Hawkeye.

I'm not cheering for Stoops by any stretch, but if that's who we get, he becomes a Cyclone.

Do you realize that the ONLY coach in ISU history to win a bowl game (and 2 of them at that) (Dan McCarney) was a former Hawk? I could give two ***** if our new coach is a former Hawk. Bring on Stoops at HC and Long at OC..

Not to mention, he currently isn't coaching there. Didn't his older brother want the Iowa job originally? Who knows, maybe there isn't all that much love left for the Hawks from them. IF you are in the coaching business, you put aside your loyalties. The only team you really care about is the one you are coaching now.

From Arizona Daily

LAS VEGAS — For the first time in his head coaching career, Mike Stoops is learning the flip side of success: A spot in the rumor mill.
Stoops, 47, said this afternoon that he has no comment on being mentioned as a possible finalist for the Iowa State football coaching job.
A Des Moines, Iowa radio station reported today that the UA coach is among two or three finalists for the Cyclones’ head coaching job.
Gene Chizik left ISU last week to become head coach at Auburn.
At practice today as the Wildcats prepare to play in Saturday's Las Vegas Bowl, Stoops chuckled when asked about the opening.
“I don’t have any comment,†Stoops said. “I’m getting ready to play a game here.â€
Iowa State has not contacted the UA athletic department for permission to speak with Stoops, Arizona Athletic Director Jim Livengood said this afternoon.
The Wildcats will take on BYU in Saturday’s Las Vegas Bowl game at 6 p.m. Tucson time on ESPN. Arizona hasn’t played in the postseason since 1998.

So hopefully this will put the Stoops rumors to rest. What a smokescreen.

Jon Miller alluded to this today. I really couldn't care less that the Stoops's have Iowa ties. So did Dan. While I feel he needed to leave ISU, I'm grateful for what he did here, and in no way hold his Hawkeye past against him. Do you think it bothers Hawk fans that Dan Gable wrestled for ISU? DOUBT IT.

I don't think the main problem with Stoops is that he was a former Hawkeye. In some ways that is an advantage because he knows the rivalry. If we get him it is probably a solid hire and I would hope it works out. If this is just a rumor, then it really has dragged for a while.

What a weird coaching search day...Opened with Fullmer love, ended with a Stoops marathon that went absolutely nowhere. I think I could be coach by the time this is all said and done

And how did that marrage end??? Hmmmm, oh I remember he was asked to leave.... Granted McCarney brought ISU to new heights, but he couldn't sustain it.

Loyalty, big man LOYALTY!!

Mike Stoops would have to renounce his status as a Hawkeye period! Because the last Hawkeye I trusted, stole my wallet and racked up 5k in credit card bills... He's now in jail along with several other Hawkeye players...

IF there is any merit to the Stoops rumors, I really, really, really hope he brings along his OC. Sonny ***** has been running the offense for the Wildcats for the last 2 years & their offense has looked like a completely different animal since he's been there. Tuitama is a pretty good QB, but their offense has turned a corner since ***** took over.

I wouldn't be wild about a Stoops hire, but he's started to finally turn around a U of A program that was a flaming turd when he took over. He's got to get a little bit of credit for that. Mackovic totally trashed that football program before he left & getting thing back on track wasn't exactly an easy task. I'd say the state of the Arizona football when Stoops was hired was about where ISU was when McCarney was hired. Arizona certainly had more recent success, but as far as the talent that was on hand I don't think there was much difference.

You cant have him!!!!!!! He's ours!!!!!

Seriously though, Sonny is wicked good. If he has time to set the offense up, you guys will score. Look at it this way, Tuitama is not a good fit in this system, get a good qb and the sky is the limit with sonny.

Although, he would leave you guys soon for a HC job himself, if he doesn't leave arizona first.
