True but OU and UT could have said, "we are happy where we are, and prefer not to move or leave the Big 12". They went right along with the money grab, lets not forget that.
That's what I think people are not understanding. ESPN tells the schools what to do. ESPN told them when Grant of Rights was up in 2025 that ESPN wasn't going to be paying anywhere near what they are going to be paying SEC, Big10. ESPN is the reason they are leaving.

"Also, Mr. Bevo, we won't be renewing the LHN. So this SEC move could really be in your best interest..."

talk about making an offer you can't refuse.

Testifying
Do you supposed Fox might have known all about this, hence Ou and Nebby being an 11am kick and Ou ******** about it since?

Texas gets paid for the Longhorn network regardless if it makes money or not. A move to get rid of the longhorn network will only make sense if their net media rights increases by more than $15 million/year.

I don't blame Texas and OU for looking out for their best interests, but the key here is HOW they went about doing that by going behind the back of the rest of the conference for six months leaving us twist in the wind. Doing so has substantially damaged our ability to find a reasonable positive outcome, at least in the short term. Can anyone really say they're surprised by their lack of empathy after our experiences with them? They've shown us exactly who they are since day one.

I do think we have a real opportunity with the coming season to catapult ourselves further into the national cfb landscape and expansion conversation. The big arguments I keep hearing against us is lack of brand recognition, tradition, ect. Another good season can't hurt. In my opinion we should be rooting for no other expansion moves being made until after this season so that we can capitalize on regency bias.

We should just get rid of college athletics as whole then right?
For the Big Revenue sports - or those with successful pro leagues - maybe we should. The non-revenue folks still deserve an opportunity to use their talents to represent the school while earning a degree. If you want to go pro, just try out for the semi-pro 18+ league. No school requirements. You'll still get the camaraderie of playing a team sport.

A lot of people are taking frustrations out on the schools or conferences. In my opinion, the real villain is ESPN.

Kinda feels like ESPN's last stand.

I can't imagine anything else they do could keep them afloat or sustained.

Shoot, of the two, Texas seems to be the home run get. They add a ton of value TV-wise, yet will end up as nothing but a punching bag for SEC teams. Seems like a win-win.
A Texas writer literally wrote a column using similar verbiage lol.
