Re: Next head coach?

Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.

Just like Dan McCarney.

I know it'll never happen, but I'd swap Chizik for Tuberville in a heartbeat.

That would be so outlandish I'd pee my pants. How could anyone possibly say we got the short end of that stick? Tuberville is a proven winner, and Chizik has accomplished nothing.

Re: Next head coach?

They didn't let him go, he resigned.

Tommy's mom spoke to the media here in Arkansas (he is a Camden Arkansas native and mom still lives here) and she said that he got a raw deal and was fired.

I just hope our search doesn't go the way Arkansas's did last year, they first broke into programming to report Tommy Bowden was going to take the job, who was fired this year, then Jim Grobe, then Tommy Tubberville, who was also fired, and finally Bobby Petrino.

Would love the end result of getting a Petrino caliber coach the first time and not getting jerked around 3 times prior to landing a coach.

Its not the same. The Auburn AD pretty much begged Tubberville to stay after he resigned.

Chizik as a head coach is a proven loser.

Re: Dan McCarney!!!!!!!!!!

If he would have made the proper coaching changes with coordinators, he would still be here today I believe. Would be great to find that type of loyalty again.

No, if he had a placekicker, he would still be here today.

Re: Dan McCarney!!!!!!!!!!

We probably won 6 games the past 2 years instead of 5 with MAC and we would still probably be looking for a new coach.

Re: Dan McCarney!!!!!!!!!!

Loyal to coordinators? Yep. ISU? Not always. Why do so few remember he went job hunting too? TCU in 2000? Anyone? That is part of the coaching ladder, always looking for the next, higher rung.

Re: Next head coach?

The next head coach HAS to have prior coaching experience. Thats one of the biggest problems I had with the Chizik hire.

I agree that previous head coaching experience is a must for our next football coach..

Let some other school do the ON THE JOB TRAINING.. Then we will just hire the guy to take us to the next level!!

I for one am tired of two things with the ISU Athletic Dept...On the job training of head football coaches that take 3-4-5 years and then if they suceed they leave for greener pastures!!

The other thing is why do we put up with a basketball program that cant beat Drake a school a quarter of ISU's size!!!

Thank goodness miller is in here to weigh in. We've dearly missed his unbiased and rational reasoning...

Re: Dan McCarney!!!!!!!!!!

If Dan wouldn't have thrown a goose egg his last two recruiting classes then I might agree but as soon as Pollard was hired Dan saw the writing on the wall and recruiting dropped off...

Yeah, McCarney did his fair share of interviewing...

Maybe, but if a coach can't recruit a halfway decent Division I kicker, than maybe he shouldn't be a head coach.

Re: Dan McCarney!!!!!!!!!!

No. Any coach who sits on 3 timeouts, 2 mins on the clock and plays for OT on the road with a BT North title on the line will never get my vote. Also, the talent level on the team before Chizik got here was pathetic. Patterson from TCU has my vote.

Re: Dan McCarney!!!!!!!!!!

I would rather have Gary Patterson of tcu as the next head coach...Patterson is from Kansas State and knows the big 12 conference and can recruit the state of Texas!!

The next hire just mite be Jamie's last the way this athletic department is going rite now in the 2 major sports aka the only sports that make money!!

Re: Next head coach?

We HAVE to go after Turner Gill big time IMO.

I don't want another coordinator taking this job... period. And I don't want someone that is used to coaching all 4 and 5 star athletes... and doesn't have experience taking average talent further than they should.

Turner Gill fits the mold. He gets more out of average talent than anyone in the country IMO. Go get him JP!!!

Re: Dan McCarney!!!!!!!!!!

Why would Patterson want to come here? He has opportunities to take better jobs - Gill is probably more possible.
