Effectively known, I said.
I’m not sure if you follow college basketball, but if you don’t, let’s put to this way, a guy with TJs ties to ISU and Wisconsin will have no trouble knowing his chances of retaining those guys. I mean, that’s a big part of why the familiarity is a benefit. It’s not likely to be a Greg taking over for Wayne situation. And he would obviously know which of his recruits and players he could bring.
I have followed college basketball for over 40 years and have worked in college athletics. ISU cannot know if players or recruits will stay at ISU until the players have a chance to talk directly with TJ. TJ can't talk to them until he is ISU's coach. TJ could speak with his UNLV players and recruits- but then that wouldn't be really professional.
Does TJ have a relationship with any current ISU players? Did he recruit any to SDSU or UNLV? I am not aware that he did. TJ doesn't have familiarity with ISU players, he has familiarity with ISU and the Big 12.
The reality is hiring a head coach is rolling the dice. TJ could end up being the next Coach K. But at this point, based on his tenure at SDSU & UNLV- I think there are coaches with better resumes and play a style of basketball I prefer.
IMO the only reason TJ's name is being floated on this board is those people have a personal relationship with TJ and are vested in getting TJ back in Ames for personal gain. People love to say they personally know the head Football or Basketball coach.
