Anyone else hearing that JP has already decided Prohm is coming back?

Lutz was on Hoiberg’s staff for one year at ISU and that was in ‘10-‘11, Fred’s first and worst year. I don’t think you know what you’re talking about..
TBH the results that roster wasn't that good. Jake Anderson was a starter and Calvin Godfrey saw a lot of minutes. It also had the one and only Jordan Railey.

Yeah I’m not blaming anyone for their first year coaching. I was just trying to disprove that person’s theory that Lutz was somehow the reason why Hoiberg was good. They obviously didn’t realize Lutz wasn’t on ISU’s staff during the good Hoiberg years so they decided to try and make TJ the one who was the reason why Fred did well.

Looking up UNLV's kenpom info. Man, you can take the offensive and defensive rankings and flip them, and they are spot on ours. Yikes.
Also looks like his team only had one Senior but enough juniors where those numbers are a little alarming. Looks like the past 5 games he was playing younger guys though.

It doesn't look like TJ will be an upgrade but still many want him because he has ISU ties.

He was the first year. And others have had that role since for the most part. Point being that Fred has historically relied on others.
So he’s like nearly all successful head coaches.

Self wasn’t stealing TJ of Lutz action. Fred brought small-ball and pace and space. Fred hired good assistants, but he wasn’t a figurehead.

Hoiberg gives TJ lots of credit. From 2015.

Otzelberger left to become the associate head coach at Washington in hopes of moving closer to a head coaching job.

He was there for two seasons — helping the Huskies land a top-10 recruiting class in 2015 — but he and his wife Allison Lacey, perhaps the best women’s basketball player Iowa State has ever had, jumped at the chance to return to Ames.

Though Hoiberg stopped short of endorsing Otzelberger specifically for the job, he did have a lot of nice things to say about arguably the most important assistant of his five years at Iowa State.

“I think T.J.’s got a lot of great qualities to him. He’s energetic. He’s young. He’s an excellent recruiter. I think he’s a very good X’s and O’s coach,” Hoiberg said. “That’s part of the search, and I’m sure that’s something that’s going to go through Jamie’s mind ... it’s happened before with guys with no experience.

Lutz is Special Assistant to Hoiberg. Fred should turn the X’s and O’s back over to Lutz. Fred hasn’t been a Winner for Years.
Fred’s problem is still not enough talent in Lincoln at the moment. He doesn’t have an Xs and Os issue. People seem to not understand his talent situation that he walked into was worse now than it was in 2010 in Ames. He currently has a good incoming class next year.

Fred has learned it’s impossible to win and recruit worth a damn in Lincoln, so it would make sense he wants out. And obviously he knows there’s going to be an opening at Iowa State where he knows he can win and recruit well to.

I don’t know what point you’re trying to make here.. I’m not saying TJ is bad nor am I saying that TJ did not help Fred in a variety of ways. I’m simply saying that Fred is in a fact a fantastic X’s and O’s coach.

High school and college coaches would travel all over the United States to listen to Fred talk about his scheme offensively.

Fred’s lack of success in the NBA and Nebraska has nothing to do with his X’s and O’s, rather has entirely to do with the fact that he was not able to play his style at the Bulls and he’s not yet been able to put together a full roster at Nebraska.

Exactly this. I was watching the first half of their game against Iowa, and Fred's guys shot the ball like they had never picked up a ball before in their life, but they knew exactly what to do and create the open shot. Aside from hilariously bad shooting, they were setting up for good shots, and the offensive flow was a thing of beauty (granted we haven't watched any sort of offensive flow in the last several years). Their talent is just too hot garbage to win.

According to the Register if Prohm is fired this year his buy out is $8M. How much will that go down if we wait a year?
Down to $6M? If that is the case it does not seem like much difference.

I would love to see someone young from the last decade of ISU basketball (such as Naz Long) join the next staff.

For example, bring back Fred and let him groom Naz to be a future successor if he does jump back to the NBA like some on here suggest he will.

He currently has a nice incoming class for next year at Nebraska. He can recruit there. We’d be lucky to have him back in Ames though.

I’ve always been a pro Pollard guy, but if he immediately hires TJ, it’s going to change my perception of him a bit.

I think the failure in this line of thinking is it assumes that JP didn't pursue other options and only went with TJ because he likes him. That is making a huge assumption that I know is wrong. He may end up going with him, but it won't because of a lack of looking.
