They could haul the old turf up my way. I live just North of JTS. Would look good in my yard and it would be a great conversation to say I have the part of the 20 yard line in my front yard.
If they sold the flood-damaged Hilton floor, why not the old turf?

And that video suggested there were some really, really good spots on the field.

Just think, for football Saturdays, you could make your own yard line stencils!

So...suppose there's anything more to this than simply a guy moving on to another job?

That popped into my head too. I'm guessing he just wants a new gig. Better pay in sales, different hours, etc.

But who knows how long we'll keep with the natural turf.

Guessing those are the reasons as well. Isn't this suppose to be the last game for this particular playing surface as well? Isn't it all suppose to be replaced with a new sod field this Spring?

I thought this was going to be debate starting up again. I do remember being called stupid after the Drake game a couple years ago when I said December games were the norm now.

And I was told Iowa State rarely plays at home in December. Now we are playing a regular scheduled game at home almost into the second week of December, not even a make up game after the season.

I said this is the way it was going to be for the future, later and more games into December. But many said I was dumb for saying that. They wanted to look to the past as proof when we played a shorter season as proof. I guess I should be used to it.

Its really hard being right so much.......J/K :jimlad:

Ok, what happened to the field during the Drake game has nothing to do with Dec games. But carry on white knight.

Come on, the only reason why we are playing a December game this year is because of a once in a lifetime pandemic ;). I'm pretty sure you had no idea that was coming up.

Ironically, we have had really good football weather this year. I suspect the field will be in great shape.

Richie Allen (former Phillies great) said this about artificial turf: "If a horse won't eat it, I don't want to play on it."

He played baseball, so not really applicable here, but I thought it was a cool quote.

New grass surface is going in after the 2021 season, so I'd say at least until 2032.

Grass is preferable if you can do it and do it well. Whatever they've been doing (even though weather has been good this year) keep doing it! Pass the torch.

The field looks great!

Grass looks good. But it apprears to be tearing up really badly. I am behind in the game and the first possession had a stoppage for the ref to fix the turf. Grass this late in the year isn’t gonna be great.

Yeah I remember that. Big divot in mid field when WV went for it and made 1st down on 1st possession of game. They sort of fixed it like a big golf divot.

Never heard any more turf issues really during game. Anybody else on that? I would have imagined it got torn up a bit?
