What's pretty sad is how untrue your statement is. Not being further north, but Detroit is actually warmer than Des Moines in the winter.

Not sure why I am sticking my nose in this fight but it is not north of Iowa either. Detroit is on roughly the same latitude as Jewel.

People want to give Campbell credit for being a great coach and recruiter but not smart when it comes to a career choice? A lot of the jobs he gets mentioned with are dead ends or coaching carousels. He can see that. Its just lazy work by talking heads or wishful fans.

I don’t think “it’s Urban or no one” is really out there. If they can’t pull in Urban, they’re getting really risky with a coaching change. Herman hasn’t been great, but it’s not like he’s losing 6-7 games a year. I think if you can’t get the sure thing with Urban, your chances for an upgrade from Herman of what they can realistically get outside of Urban is incredibly risky.
I'm just stating what I read. This is all over the boards, Twitter, FB, and Reddit. Most say Meyer or no one.

There are some others that are way more delusional, thinking they are pulling a firmly entrenched coach like Saban or Kelly.

There are others that think Campbell is awful as is Oregon's coach cuz he lost a game, simply because they know nothing of anything outside their bubble of Texas.

Then there are a few that are realistic. Those that realize how much Campbell has done, but also realize it might be hard to pull him away from here. They also mention some serious names like Freeze, Fickell, Venables and a few others.

The last take is the extreme amount of buyout. While Texas seams to have endless amounts of money, this year has changed things a bit, a $25mill+ buyout, then paying a seriously high new contract, possibly one of the highest in college football, many just don't see it happening. If they can hit the home run with say Meyer, who many don't see coming for numerous reasons, they would make it happen, but without a huge name and get they just do not think it would happen. Bringing in the Meyer or no one theme.

I think many are just hoping they can find a way to fire Herman with cause to get out of his buyout, like their Tech brothers did.

I can't imagine an AD firing Tom Herman, paying him $25 million, only to hire Mario Cristobal and pay him $6-$7 million per year. That's crazy talk (but with how bad agents work over these ADs, will probably happen).

Or like someone stated earlier, imagine paying Herman's buyout, then Campbell's buyout(if thats the route they went) and then his agreement on top of that, all while almost every college football team has taken a pay cut during the pandemic.

While I'm very happy with what CMC has been able to accomplish. I don't believe he thinks that the job here at Iowa State is done yet. I think that is his own self imposed threshold for when he may be willing to consider leaving.

In my opinion, he is finally at the first plateau in a process which may take many. I hope he sees it that way too. I do not anticipate that he will ditch this philosophy for the big quick payoff (a la The Texas Payoff, or The Michigan Payoff or... well you get it).

When I said cold, I was referring to the attitude of the community, not the ambient temperature.

Not really a fight, so come on in.

All I know is when I get onto a plane in Moline destined for Detroit, we fly north.

Back to my original premise; who wants to live in Detroit?

I don’t know how true that is. He’s not an idiot. He knows the NFL and College games are not apples to apples. He appears to care deeply about helping young men become better people. That’s something that’s not going to be the same at all at the Pro level. He may not care enough and will go pro and take on the new challenge. But what he says and what we know about how much he cares about college kids at least is a factor that would lead him to stay if he does.

The thing about Campbell is that he has time on his side. He could stay here another 10 years and still be considered “young” in the coaching world.
