To get back away from the yelling at each other what solutions do people propose for the next couple of weeks. Let’s start by all agreeing it isn’t ok to just open everything up now and it isn’t possible to keep our current restrictions indefinitely. How would people propose we ease the restrictions.
Would have been nice if states actually followed the guidelines of a 14 day decrease in cases before opening large gathering businesses back up.

Some sort of actual expectations of limited access, social distancing protocol, and planned spatial arrangements, and businesses need to provide proof that they are meeting expectations before opening and after.

Wisconsin's trying to go for 14 days straight of lowered % of cases vs. tests done. I don't think they'll get there and there won't be a choice by the time the restrictions date is reached but to open things up, since so many have ignored advisory to not do things like travel and visit places with low cases, just to fish, as it is.

Increases in diagnostic testing, contact tracing and antibody testing would be a good start.

It is a "gotcha" questions because everyone already knows the answer and whatever answer she gives can be spun negatively.

The correct answer to the question is "No. No matter what precautions they take, the virus could still spread." Then she gets blamed for accepting that the virus will spread, and not doing more about it.

The other answer is to say "yes". Which is a lie. Then she gets personally blamed when another worker gets the virus, which will inevitably happen because the virus will likely never be fully exterminated.

That's why it's a bad question. There wasn't going to be an acceptable answer to a certain portion of the population.
For someone adequately prepared it seems like a simple question.

i mean seriously, it’s a trick question to ask about extremely hot spots that get national attention? Really?

It doesn't have to be answered as a yes or no. She could have said what she is doing to ensure the plants are following the guidelines that have been dictated to them. The plants need oversight.

Cause the minute she says yes, there will be reports from disgruntled employees saying otherwise. There is no way she could say yes in that situation unless the government took over the operations and could verify it.

But shouldn’t that be something you have to answer for as the executive? You can’t just ignore it.

How about 'These are the guidelines that we expect of these places, and we have a plan to be able to check on them, and support them as needed'.

And that the state has direct regulatory oversight for the factories - including from a worker safety perspective. It is literally the governor's job to ensure they are doing the right things
Is she supposed to travel to every plant across the state every day and check to make sure they are doing things the way she proposed?

Bear with me for a minute, but she could actually make sure there is stuff in place orrrrrr she could say no, and i won't allow plants to open until they convince me they do. But you know she is a corporate shill so she won't.

it's almost like there are state agencies that inspect things. a lot of these things don't require any more than a quick walk through to say hey people are distanced and wearing masks. Pretty basic stuff.

Posts like this are illuminating because they reveal that some people just haven't the faintest idea of how things work.

Anyone who expects the governor to know absolutely whether any large industrial facility is taking all proper precautions is extremely naive. Unless she's there every day doing on site inspections around the clock, she's not going to know if they are doing everything possible. At some point, she has to take the company's word for it, she's not going to pop up on the assembly line on third shift to review their cleaning logs.

I’d like to see an actual plan too. I think the biggest thing I’d like to see is getting some of the stuff that can make people feel normal back open.

I’d like to see a way for some of the hair type places open on a limited basis. Maybe appointments with limits to how many can be done. Also have requirements for cleaning. I think for some people this is important for mental well being. I also think it could ease some of the hurt for those businesses. Probably wouldn’t be profitable but may see lower losses.

I also want to see some way for movie theaters open partially. Maybe limits to 25-50% capacity. Increased cleaning between showings.

I like the idea of getting normal things up and running even in limited capacities. I think that this will be incredibly helpful as it will hopefully allow for some of the restrictions to stay in place longer. I’ve said it the whole time people are only going to tolerate stuff for so long. Keeping people accepting of the restrictions has to be a key factor.

I don't think she could prevent those plants from opening based on the EO from Trump.

You absolutely do not take a company's word for anything. Companies need oversight. These plants have USDA representatives in them almost constantly to make sure they are operating properly. The governor can have people in these plants making sure coronavirus related guidelines are being followed.

If you want to pay 16 bucks to sit in a cough factory more power to you I guess.
