Here is a good summary of the various models currently out.

That looks 2 weekds out of date. The end of the "observed data line" cuts off just past mid-april. As of today, the U.S. is reporting just over 62,000 deaths if you want to compare it to those model predictions. Looks pretty close to the IHME model actually.

That's not a crisis. That represents idiots not understanding statistics. If you test more people fewer of them are going to be positive. Especially when they've made it so darn difficult to test unless you have pretty much been diagnosed before they even give you a test.

Someone didn't read the article closely.

I'm guessing somewhere between CU 40% and YYG.

And how many people die every year on average? How many die from the flu every year? Pretty similar, perhaps slightly higher and that's due to the incentive for hospitals to just list every death as COVID related.

Don’t really understand this. I would think we should be going back up after coming down from the spike at the meat processing facilities.
The hygienic lab is validating TestIowa and training temp people for the TestIowa process. Might explain the lower test counts the last couple days.

You have too many bosses or heads of companies/businesses that can't operate if they're not overseeing all operations physically, while probably at the same time don't like 'big brother'. Oddly many people that I've had as bosses that behave this way were horrible at delegating in general.

There's some stuff being figured out as we go and hopefully it finds a balance going forward.

For example it's not the same as being there for the appointment to work things out, but I had a Zoom PT appointment the other day that was basically just as productive as when I could go in. Issue being many don't have the luxury of being able to attend virtually.

I think most of us are finding that it's not optimal, but we can get by conducting a lot of business remotely. The problem is with the way the SIP or similar orders, people just say "we're in an essential business, so everybody operate business as usual."

I'll also say that I know lots of people who are being encouraged to work from home and borderline pressured to do so, but still go into the office. Literally sitting in front of a computer all day doing stuff they could do from home, but for some reason just decide they want to go into the office.

I have family members with underlying conditions and a weakened immune system and will get a cold occasionally but get their FLU SHOT which makes the FLU MUCH LESS DANGEROUS and if they were to get this and die after it would be BECAUSE OF COVID since they weren't 'just gonna die anyway' as your callousness suggests.

What’s your source?

Looking it up....although I'm sure its not on the Twitter/Google/Microsoft approved list.

They are only quasi-governmental like Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac (until they went belly up and were re-nationalized in the last crisis).

Straight from their own website...

https://www.cdcfoundation.org/financials

Established by Congress more than two decades ago, the CDC Foundation is an independent, 501(c)(3) public charity.

From their June 30, 2019 Financial Statements..

$50 million dollars from Donors "with restrictions"
$15 million dollars from government grants
$10 million from indirect cost recovery ...?

Anyone watch the press conference? Was Kim as testy as usual?

Also the SW region of Iowa is up to a 7. I think they've been a 5.

Yes, by taking historically unprecedented steps in terms of level of action and breadth to slow spread of the virus we MAY keep total deaths from COVID within the same order of magnitude as the seasonal flu.

Nothing like yesterday when she was shocked that someone would ask whether she intend to appear in church as a show of confidence in her policy choices.

The regional maps were always "response theater" designed to give impression they had a real decision-making framework. Now that we're reopening, they can abandon that facade.

That's about the CDC Foundation, not the CDC itself. The CDC Foundation is tasked with raising private funds to support the CDC. Interestingly, elsewhere on the CDC Foundation's website, it explicitly refers to the CDC as a federal agency (3rd paragraph, 1st sentence)
