I don't think you understand what flattening the curve actually means.
Our governor didn't even know what flattening the curve meant until like two days ago lol. She kept saying bend the curve for like 2 weeks.

Not exactly sure.
I’m guessing with a lag in results that we may have been going through tests at the end of last week and today was a Sunday type thing which usually has lower numbers. Would guess there would be more tests tomorrow or the next for a few days. Hope I’m wrong and things improve. The east coast is still a crap show and I won’t feel too much better until they get their stuff under control some.

When I'm talking percentage of positive tests, I mean total. We don't remove recovered people from the tally of cases, so this should be the same.

7304 negative tests + 549 positive tests = 7,853 total tests in Iowa.

549/7853 = .069 or 6.9% of all tests coming back positive.

That percentage has been consistent all week.
Nice

That's my assumption.

Hopefully that's a sign of less people looking to get tested in the first place, as opposed to them being rationed.
It's pretty well known there were a LOT of people faking symptoms/ histories in order to get tested early on. Hence all the "OMG they wouldn't test me!!!" FB stories you saw. Hopefully most of those have been weeded out.

Obviously it's not going to change much because you're adding small numbers to large numbers. I guarantee that percentage went up from yesterday though.

My MIL went in the first of March to get tested due to feeling a little stuffy.

If they weren't tested, how would that change these numbers at all? Lol

That's like saying:

Well, before this pandemic, 92% of people that have ever lived are dead and now it's only at 92.01%. Pretty insignificant if you ask me.

It does if she thinks a dip in the numbers means we're on the right side of things lol.
Huh? How does her referring to "flattening the curve" as "bending the curve" lead to her interpreting the numbers any differently?

How do you know none of them were?
Because I can assure you most doctors are able to tell who is faking and who is not faking. You can't fake a fever of 103, which is a requirement to get tested if you're under the age of 60 lol.

Just stop lying. My BIL is one of the positives today. Never had a fever.

Then they must've expanded the criteria. I know someone who went into get tested and they literally told him he didn't meet the criteria because he didn't have a fever of 103 and his fever was 102.
