“At the end of the day is people are ill they should stay home.” Except we can’t test hardly anyone so nobody will know to stay home.

She said the state lab has capacity for 400 tests. I don't get why we can't expand the testing a bit to help prevent "hot spots"

She keeps saying, we won't test if it doesn't change the outcome/treatment. Wouldn't more testing help prevent more spread? They can't rely on telling people to just stay home if they are sick.

Probably because they really don't know for sure. I'm much happier to hear that they don't know something than the Federal press conferences where someone (no politics) spouts off what he thinks or feels as facts and has to be corrected after the news conference. Tell us facts and if you don't have the facts, work to get them.

The easy thing to do is say what you know and what you don't. Instead they talk in circles and just repeat themselves and say nothing meaningful at all.

Meanwhile they continue to downplay not only the availability but even the importance of getting tested.

Frightening lack of detail here. Lots of "we're working with" and "we're talking with" and talks of "our partners" and "making thoughtful use of resources" but they've said absolutely nothing concrete outside of updated confirmed cases data.
Yes. I wish they would just say "No, we don't have enough supplies, we need more tests. We are trying to to get both those things." Press conference would be done in 30 seconds.

Doesn’t sound like they think we need more tests.
I think they are trying to make it sound like everything is under control, but nobody buys it, so its a pointless tactic. Anyone who is paying attention at all knows there aren't enough tests to go around, so they are rationing them to the most likely cases. I'd feel much better if they would just say that. Instead of claiming that "not everyone needs to be tested. You only need to be tested if you are severely ill and have been in contact with someone who has the virus" just say "we don't have enough tests, so we are only testing people who are deemed to be the most likely to have the virus". That's the truth of the situation. Instead, it makes them appear incompetent, which they aren't. They just don't have the resources available right now.

The testing issue is overrated at this point. Yah we'd all like more tests, but in the meantime cope with what you have rather than fretting about what you don't.

Everyone should act like you have it and everyone around you has it. Even if we have high levels of testing, that won't guarantee the person standing next to you has been tested. Stay at home if you can. Wash your hands. Wait this out.

It can be both.

I’ve listened to the daily updates from 5 or 6 states for the last week and to say Iowa is on a different level frustrating and discomforting is an understatement. Both Reynolds and the IDPH lady sound batshit crazy at times and uneducated at others. But either way, they always try to talk down to people.

Most of the things they say go counter to so many experts and other governors and for some reason Iowans aren’t throwing a bigger fit about it.

I fee like everyone just started freaking out about the governors press conference for no reason. Would it be nice to have enough rest yeah but at this point we seem to be fairing relatively well. I know the state has 44 confirmed test but has any of those cases even needed the ICU yet? We need to continue to be cautious because other states are experiencing issues right now but frankly I think we’ve had a solid response.

Every seen Nebraska?

I can picture many I know in Iowa-- It's just 'Well, it is what it is' and 'Oh, another teleconference on that new flu' and then they turn the channel.

TBH I am happy they are beating around the bush. What you said is entirely true. They are rationing tests to people that meet the symptoms as well as to older people or people with other conditions, aka the people that this virus could be fatal for them. I’m fine with that. If I get sick as a 43 year old healthy person, I’m going home and staying there, I will recover.
But if you doom and gloom the situation there are plenty of people that will completely freak out and potentially steal what they need or hurt other people. Christ they are buying all the TP now in a panic. Just imagine what would happen if we actually got bad news in this deal.

How about the fact that Sean Payton, the head coach of the New Orleans Saints, can feel bad on Sunday, get tested for the coronovirus on Monday and have the results today while Reynolds blabbers on for the umpteen time about this and that while never answering the question why the state of Iowa still has less than 500 tests.
