Honest question since you are rational. Will Purdy go down as the greatest QB in the state of Iowa's history when it's all said and done? It will come down to him or Chuck I assume

Hard to compare when you are talking about a 35 year difference. The game has changed so much. Kenny Ploen and Randy Duncan didn't put up the passing numbers, but they might have been the best QBs the state has ever seen. Duncan was the #1 overall pick in the NFL draft. Ploen went on to win four grey cups in canada.

And that doesn't even count Kinnick the only Heisman trophy winner from the state and Long and Banks as the runnerups.

What "real defenses" did he see this year?
According to NCAA football rankings for team TOTAL DEFENSE
Loses to #12 Iowa, #18 ND, #38 OU, #39 Baylor, #43 KSU, #82 OSU
Wins to #128 LA Monroe, #126 Texas Tech, #122 Kansas, #97 Texas, #75 WVU, #26 TCU, UNI #N/A

He beat 1 team in the top 50 in total defense in 2019. All other wins were against teams ranked well below average. Actually he beat 6 NCAA teams with defenses that averaged out to be ranked 96th out of 130 eligible teams.......

So he crumbled vs Oklahoma and TCU?

So he didn't play well vs Oklahoma?

I am talking about wins, not stats. Wins are what matters at the end of the day, right? He does not win the big games. Maybe he will next year, but with a new starting line and losing some decent pieces on defense it might be hard for ISU to do that. Unless the big 12 continues to fall off the map. Riley leaves and OU will struggle to be competitive next year.

You said he crumbled vs real defenses. Oklahoma and TCU were real defenses. Did he crumble vs them?

He beat the 26 ranked Defense in the country. A real defense is top 10. Iowa want not even that, neither was ND. And he stunk it up against top 20 defenses right? TCU was 26. I will give you that as your moral victory. But he is not in the Banks or Tate Category until he wins some big games.

He doesn't play defense so no he didn't beat Oklahoma. He put the team on his back and outplayed the Heisman runner up in his own house though
And lost. Sorry but he is not mentally tough yet, Jury is still out though.

So what real defenses did he "crumble" against when he faced them?

What does "Iowa want not even that" mean?

I guess he did not face any top 10 defenses but still managed to go 7-6 as a starter. Only winning games against defense in the 96th ranked category of FBS.

Yeah I was, He crumbled when he faced Good defenses. He won 1 game out of 6 against top 50 defenses he face last year. Not Chuck Long, Banks, Tate, Seneca, or Sage territory IMO. He puts up good stats because of the system he is in though and hopefully he becomes more of a winner in the future.
