How many of you got this one wrong? I know I did. I really thought Shaka would do well at the "next level" at UT.
Texas has the problem of they have the elite talent but without the program identity to control it. Same as in football. Herman is a unique breed of coach that can build a program on that. Shaka was never a good fit because his teams relied on player buy in and exceeding expectations.

Same, I still wouldn't be surprised if he kills it at the next stop.
Define kills it.
He’s never had that great of success in the regular season relative to the program’s history. He’s got a name and will probably recruit well wherever he goes next, but he’s yet to kill it anywhere.

I'd consider multiple draft picks and a final four at VCU "killing it"

I was curious so I looked it up but VCU was his first HC job.

You, and UT’s former AD.

Draft picks? That’s a very, very generous definition, and if anything having multiple drafts in CAA or A10 and still not winning the conference is the opposite of killing it. He finished 4th in the CAA the season VCU went to the Final Four. It’s fair to say the tournament is the most important aspects of a season, but also a crapshoot and not indicative of how a coach did throughout the season.

I could be wrong and I'm not going to go digging through old posts to find out for sure, but I vaguely remember thinking it was an odd move for him at the time and not a great fit for wither side. Not saying he can't succeed at the P5 level somewhere else, but for all the resources UT has they also treat basketball as an afterthought. I think Smart could do well at a school with more reasonable expectations and an enthusiastic fanbase.

He missed the tourney once in 6 years. You've got some crazy high expectations for what constitutes being a big success at a mediocre mid major.
