Oh yeah, I knew this guy. He was a good friend of another friend of mine. I went to his wife's visitation and was even in his loft.

Honestly how many times have do people have to watch 48 hours mystery or 20/20 to realize that anti freeze murder stuff does not work anymore. Like please before you murder someone just watch a few episodes of those shows. You have a much better chance.

Shortly after we married & joined households closer to Ames, we were selling off a business property that he had on the north side of Des Moines. We went down & met a guy that was interested in buying it, and showed him around the place (warehouse, small condemned house) and chatted with the guy for a bit in the front drive. He said he'd get back to us. A couple of days later we saw him on the news - arrested - major drug dealer. I was shocked; Lew says "you didn't notice the jewelry, the clothes"? Nope. Sometimes I'm just too damned trusting. :D

Infamous? That means really famous!

Have we had a thread where you're mistaken for somebody famous? Because I have a story for that...

As far as infamy goes, I was at a basketball camp where Acie Earl was a special guest. He pulled me up from the group to demonstrate a few things. It wasn't really fair, though - he's 6-10, I was like maybe 5 feet tall at the time.

December 2008. Lived off campus in West Ames.

Partied on a Friday night at a buddy's house. Made it home late at night. Woke up Saturday and my phone had way more texts than usual. Most of them with the same message "What the hell did you do last night?" I'm very confused at this point. Look out my window and cops are everywhere. Get bundled up and walk outside. Crime Scene unit and a coroner truck.

Remember the Atiba Spellman murders? Happened right in our neighborhood.

If the timing was right, I could have went right past the guy who died outside naked in the cold. When went outside they were just getting to the point where they were going to uncover the body and move it. Coroner's team told us to back up and go inside.

I was still in school then and I can't remember hearing anything about this. I'm sure I did but just odd that it doesn't ring any bells.

Snowmobiling across Saylorville with a buddy one Feb. Cruising at 50 he waves me over so he can take a leak. Good idea I thought as I could drain as well. Halfway through a good pee he points ahead to where we are traveling and says... what's that? I squint. Then my pee stops. White caps. Open water. We would have sunk. Needless to say we zipped back to shore and didnt say much on way home. Snowmobile sold a week later. Too many close calls.

Guy walked in on his girlfriend banging another dude IIRC. Stabbed them both. Fled to North Carolina or something and got caught there a week or so later. Murderer was in this 30s but was an ISU student.

Not sure if this counts but throughout the years I met plenty of women who either met Bret Bielema at events or worked within the department, etc., and basically all stories involved him being wasted and/or harassing them from the get go. What a slob.

Also work with people who have seen Barry Alvarez smokin' wasted at high school football games yelling all sorts of obscenities at the refs/players etc.

Oh last one for me. I gave Larry Eustacy a high five as he was walking off the court at Missouri. In my opinion I think I might have been the last guy to ever high five Larry walking off the court as an Iowa State coach. It was more of a hand shake low five but yeah.

I have a very sad one. I was hanging with a female at the University of Iowa. Just met her with some of my friends. Got her phone number because she wanted to set me up with her friend. A couple weeks went by and I found out she was raped by Pierre Pearce. Very sad deal. She is and was such a great person. She went on to do well and get married and have some kids.

Pierre Pierce will tutor your children in basketball and life for the right price.

Not exactly sure.
To further your point, I once had a coworker who went to Wisky. She had many run ins with him at the bars in town and echoed much of what was said earlier. Total douche, hitting on/getting fresh with co-eds, letting people buy him beers, etc.

I guess hitting on coeds worked since he got one. Unless she finally sobered up and left him.

Not really my story but my parents went to visit my brother in Los Angeles late September of 2017. They flew into Las Vegas for a couple days then drove LA. Here is where the story gets really crazy. When my parents were in LA they saw Tom Petty and The Heartbreaker at The Hollywood Bowl. So the Vegas shooting happened on Oct. 1, Tom Petty passes away on Oct. 2. My parents were at his second to last show (performed 3 nights at The Hollywood Bowl) and in Vegas a week before both tragic events..
