That's the whole point for broadening the footprint to the Midlands. Spread the fixed costs.

Yeah I am not into taking on the fixed costs for a failing network because the "man who hired Bill Snyder" says its a great idea.

Games like OU/USC Texas/Oregon etc aren't going to be on Pac 12 network. I don't see distributors rushing to get the Pac 12 network to their subscribers for 3 weeks of games involving ISU/Oregon State/Colorado/Kansas State/Kansas and Cal.

First, we need to worry about football, because that's what drives conference survival. Would people watch K State or ISU at UCLA? Yes - they're called ISU and K State fans, so pretty much the same people that would watch ISU or K State play Toledo or Akron. You're not going to get many new eyeballs there. Top it off with a nice 10:30 eastern kickoff and you really have a loser.

You're nuts. The USC/K-State series had high TV eyeball ratings.

Like the idea, don't like the conference its with. If this was successful other conferences would follow suite, I'd rather be playing against a conference with TV eyeballs already on them. We do the SEC basketball challenge already, why not an SEC/Big 12 Football challenge.

Good luck convincing the $EC to do that. The NCAA cant even convince them to face their own conference 9 times like every other conference.

"Wefald’s proposal calls for all 30 of the Big 12’s non-conference games and for 30 of the Pac-12’s 36 out-of-league games to be played against each other."

Just this piece of it is so stupid I can't fathom the rest of the plan being any better.
It is a starting point. Have you ever in your life been in negotiations, ever, even with your sweetheart did you start at the finish line? My God, people!

This is a concept, an alliance, that I've long favored. With the P12 being so weak, perhaps now's the time it will gain favor? It potentially would solve some scheduling and TV issues. Luring ASU and Arizona to the B12 is also noteworthy.

“This alliance of 22 universities from the Great Plains to the West Coast would provide the vital content of big-time football games that dovetail nicely with the new developing platforms of information.”

Wefald’s proposal calls for all 30 of the Big 12’s non-conference games and for 30 of the Pac-12’s 36 out-of-league games to be played against each other.

The matchups would be spread evenly across the season (10 per month) with the winners of each conference meeting at the end of the regular season for a championship game, which would rotate between the Rose Bowl and AT&T Stadium.

Gee called the proposal “brilliant,’’ according to Wefald, but declined to comment.

All businesses need to look at where to find efficiencies, alliances, better product etc. so kicking this around is healthy. Airlines form alliances with competitors in their loyalty programs and travel companies share platforms for booking systems. So there are plenty of parallels in the non-P5 world.

I thought a few things were strange though (besides the fact that Morgantown is most decidedly not in the Plains):

* The only talk was of football and you KNOW that many schools won't want to lock in 3 P5 games only. It's good that they talk of a scheduling arrangement of just 1 game per year, which would be cool.

* Why was no mention made of basketball? I would trade 3 Pac 12 teams on ISU's schedule anytime for Southern, Texas Southern, Mississippi Valley State, Eastern Illinois etc. in a hearbeat. Basketball is where you have some schedule flexibility.

* Maybe they could discuss picking up some games on their network. Where I live, MSG, FSNY etc. pick up Big 12 games.

There's talk of the Pac 12 dying. I don't see that; they still are 100% of the big boys in the Pacific time zone so they'll have some sort of league, I'm sure.

I hope that B12 leaders will take some time to study how Germany hitching their wagons to Austria-Hungary and Turkey in WW1 worked out.

I guess having late games may be nice for getting viewership from gamblers.

We're better off until OU gets a B10 or SEC invite. And not looking at advancing the model but rather going to the cave is a bad strategy for any management group, see Sears. ISU and K-State are amongst those most at risk here and should be supportive of ideas that might strengthen the B12.
ISU is no longer in that category. KSU, KU, BU are.
